How were states to be readmitted under the Reconstruction Act? They had to write a new state constitution supporting the 14th Amendment They had to give African American men the right to vote  What was President Johnson’s argument against the Reconstruction Acts? He said that African Americans did not deserve the same treatment as white people Why was President Johnson impeached? He fired a member of his Secretary of War without Senate approval, which was the law then What was the result of the impeachment trial? He was not guilty, and he kept his job Who won the election of 1868? Ulysses S. Grant Despite the fact that southern states agreed to allow African Americans to vote, what happened? Southerners used violence against them to stop them from voting

It gave African Americans the right to vote When did it go into effect? 1870 What effect might the Fifteenth Amendment have on women in the United States? They would most likely want their voting rights and try to obtain them.
