JPNIC IPv6 agent service APRICOT2000 Seoul, South Korea Masayoshi Toya JPNIC secretariat 2000/3/1 Copyright(C) Japan Network Information Center

Overview Background Basic idea Documents Form Application flow Fees Current status Future

Background At the time APNIC started allocating IPv6 address space, JPNIC members showed interests to obtain it. To receive allocation services from APNIC, APNIC membership was necessary. Thus if a member of JPNIC would like to obtain IPv6 address space, they have to become an APNIC member as well.

Basic idea JPNIC is submitting the request form on behalf of the JPNIC member. (agent service only) Since JPNIC does not have a block of IPv6 address to allocate JPNIC members, allocation is directly made by APNIC. JPNIC does not provide translation services for filling out a request form or answering questions.

Documents Translated document Provisional IPv6 Assignment and Allocation Policy document http://www.nic.ad.jp/jp/internet/doc-j/ipv6/v6-rir-policy.html JPNIC original JPNIC provided IPv6 sub-TLA allocation service http://www.nic.ad.jp/jp/regist/ipv6/doc/ipv6stla-process.html FAQ FAQ for IPv6 http://www.nic.ad.jp/jp/regist/ipv6/faq.html

Form Request Form http://www-v6.nic.ad.jp/v6/ipv6req.pl Script was borrowed from APNIC Made a following change - Added JPNIC member ID

Application flow JPNIC Member JPNICAPNIC Application web Reply sTLA request form APNIC handle, maintainer Send sTLA request form (Ask Questions) (forward to requester) (answer) (forward to APNIC) Allocation sTLA block Send Invoice for allocation Make payment Send Invoice for handling fee Make payment Register reverse name Register reverse name Update APNIC DB

Issue of application flow Procedure of paper information submission is on discussion with APNIC.

Fees Fixed amount of charge to JPNIC members JPY 50,000 JPNIC member pays after allocation is made Handling fee contains the following costs APNIC handling fee JPNIC agent service cost Bank charge of transferring money to APNIC Currency exchange profit/loss

Issue of fees Fee for additional allocation has not been determined At this point, we assume that not many cases apply in foreseeable future

Current status Two requests have been received Procedure and costs should be reviewed by gaining experiences

Future Education for JPNIC members Education contains following items in order to be appropriate IPv6 registries; Registering allocation/assignment information in the DB. Keeping the information up-to-date.

Discussion Who updates the DB? LIRs who are allocated sTLAs Reason; Only LIRs know who the address blocks are assigned to. Who provides the DB? IRs who hold a pool of sTLAs (currently RIRs) Reason; Such IRs maintain allocation/assignment information.
