NORMAN MCLAREN Introduction Biography Politics Philosophy Techniques Films Conclusion References Biography 1914: Born in Scotland 1932: Attended Glasgow School of Fine Arts 1934: Worked with Grierson at the General Post Office Film Unit in London 1939: Emigrated to US 1941: Joined the National Film Board in Canada 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s: National Film Board of Canada 1983: Retired from NFB 1986: Interviewed for documentary on his life 1987: Died in Montreal (72 years old)

NORMAN MCLAREN Introduction Biography Politics Philosophy Techniques Films Conclusion References Politics Worked as a cameraman in Spain during the Civil War in 1936 Worked on a rural education project in China in 1949 Became a communist and a pacifist leading up to WWII Ended up making several propaganda films for the war effort Eventually gave up strong political ties in favor of focusing on art
