ETUCE commitment to the issue Support national TU in understanding the key factors influencing a successful use of ICT in education Encourage national TU to get involved and initiate discussions on what use of ICT they aspire to Ensure that teachers point of view is taken into account on how their profession should evolve with ICT Based on research on the ground, provide guidelines to national TU on how to make best use of ICT EU lobbying- i.e. for more funds for mutual learning

Situation in EU countries Since the Lisbon Council – massive investments in ICT equipment for education All EU member states have their national programmes for integration of ICT in education, some countries are frontrunners After taking care of the urgent need for ICT equipment and teacher training - move towards the need to ensure quality provision of education using ICT Digital divide is a reality - increases risk of social exclusion

4. From ELFE 1 to ELFE 2 Project Shift in the focus: from what are the strengths and weaknesses of the use of ICT to how can we ensure an added value of the ICT use from tracking situation only in schools to a new focus on teacher education making a further link between school management, school financial organisation and teacher preparedness to use ICT ELFE 2 project is: Linking policy to practice and supporting an evidence-based policy- making providing national TU with information on the current situation in schools and teacher education institutions (having a sample of 5 test countries) providing national TU with recommendations on the organisational and pedagogical use of ICT which can succeed in developing pupils digital and eLearning competences

5. ELFE 2 Regional Seminars – Objectives In-depth presentation of the ELFE 2 project aims, approach and activities Raising-awareness on other important ICT in education initiatives and projects Presentation of the preliminary results of the research phase of the project Open floor for discussions on the role of TU in making a strategic and effective use of ICT Results of the Seminar to be used in the drafting of the updated recommendations to policy-makers and TU (policy phase of ELFE 2)
