QUESTION Today my group decided to answer this question for the Science Fair: Who is better at estimating the unknown, males or females?
3
PURPOSE THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DETERMINE WHO IS BETTER AT ESTIMATING THE UNKNOWN, MALES OR FEMALES? THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE IF BOYS OR GIRLS THINKING IS BETTER SO WE WOULD KNOW WHO TO GO TO IF WE NEEDED AN ESTAMATE.
4
Hypothesis We hypothesize that girl will be better estimators than females. we believe this because in our class girl get better grades in math class.

Procedures
6
materials skittles snap cubes gram cubs marbles pencils
7
VARIABLES MANIPULATED: males or females RESPONDING: estimates CONSTANT: Objects in jar for each trial Number of male and female estimaters Size of jar

Directions 1 Count the candy. Write the number hidden. 2 Place candy in the jar. 3 Have estimators estimate the same number of candy in the jar. Record estimates. 4 Repeat steps 1-3 with snap cubes. 5 Repeat steps 1-3 with gram cubes. 6 Repeat steps 1-3 with marble. 7 Repeat steps 1-3 with pencils. 8 Calculate the average estimates. 9 Calculate the average difference between actual and average estimates.

Average Difference Between Actual and Estimates

CONCLUSION Our hypothesis was incorrect. Males are better estimators than females. The average difference between the actual and the estimate for males was 75.62. The average difference between the actual and the estimate for females was 75.94. We repeated this investigation again we would ask more people to estimate.
