The Cover Sheet You have $25,000. Someone hands you a business plan for possible investment. What do you expect to see on the cover?

Table of Contents Each of you will prepare a business plan with the following components: Executive Summary I Organizational Plan --Summary --Products/Services --Administrative Plan II Location Plan III Marketing Plan IV Financial Plan V Supporting Documents

Summary Usually about 6-8 pages Vision and Mission. Congratulations! You already have a first draft. Normally you might not include the vision, but for this class we will. Business Model. Describe the business in your own words in one page. What are some key matters to address here? SWOT Analysis

SWOT Strengths Do you have anything proprietary? Location? Value added service? Do you have any advantages or specializations? Weaknesses What needs improvement? Do you lack any kind of expertise? Received any negative press? If so, about what? What opinions are out there about your business? Opportunities Markets or niche segments not being served? Technology developments? Legal changes? Gaps that need filling? Threats New competitors emerging? Existing competitors gaining strength? Are prices or margins falling? New products or services on the horizon?

Products and Services For products: Describe from raw material to finished item. Describe necessary production equipment (what you already own, what you need, how much it will cost) Distribution (Necessary relationships) For Services: Why you are able to provide it, how it is provided, who will be doing the work, and where will it be performed? What is special that you offer (stated in terms of the customer)? What equipment and supplies are required? Time performing the service vs that billed to customer? Describe your products or services in categories or types. Note the overall timeline and interdependencies (i.e., what needs to be finished before other things can start?).. Use a flow chart if necessary.

Administrative Plan (Save location for later) Legal Structure Sole Proprietorship Partnership LLC or Corporation Management team and structure (Org Chart). Governance? Hiring plan. (type of employee, qualifications, salary, when needed) Accounting. System/software, who is responsible, verified externally? Legal assistance. What will be important to your business? Intellectual Property. Patents, Trademarks, Copyright Protection Insurance. Product and service liability. Medical insurance and other benefits for employees. Vehicle insurance. Shipping insurance. Security? Inventory controls, client protection, personnel protection.
