3 Treaties with Britain Rush-Bagot Treaty (1817)- limit naval presence on the Great Lakes One vessel each on Lake Ontario and Lake Champlain Two each on the other lakes Convention of 1818- established official boundary of northern Louisiana Territory and British North America (Canada) at the 49 th parallel & share the Newfoundland fisheries; joint ten year occupation of Oregon country

4 Where to next? After these two agreements there remained one piece of outstanding territory. What was that territory? SPANISH FLORIDA Adams-Onis Treaty- AKA Transcontinental Treaty; Spain ceded Florida & claims of Oregon; American abandoned claims of Texas, and western boundary of Louisiana was made to run zig zag along Rockies to the 42 nd parallel and turn west to the Pacific
