I chose the Navy because I wanted to learn more about them. I admire them. They have great bravery and fight for our country.

The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas.

Rev. William Whiting originally wrote the Navy Hymn in 1860 after surviving a furious storm on the English coast. Inspired by the mighty force that “ nature can heap up upon the sea Rev. Whiting penned the Ode, “ Eternal Father strong to save.” One year later, the hymn was set to music. The first verse would soon be sung at the conclusion of each Sunday’s Divine services at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Qualifications- Must be 18 years old of age unless your 17 and have permission from your parents. To be an officer you must be 19-35 no older. Time- How much time do you spend at sea it depends. Ships go to sea for 10 days to 2 weeks. Training-The Navy usually focuses on water survival, physical fitness, basic seamanship, shipboard firefighting, basic engineering, and signals.
