1 Supporting ITT providers in the delivery of the primary based curriculum by Julie Martin, Year 6 Class Teacher at St.Peters Junior School, Horbury, Wakefield.

2 Main message – The perfect partnership. Context – Working alongside University Tutors. Aims – To share work undertaken over the past year. To give an insight into the benefits of an active partnership.

3 Content – I intend to share examples of the input I have made to ITT programmes from specific sessions to generic education and professional studies sessions. What I consider to be the benefits from an ITT perspective and that of the Continued Professional Development of the AST.

4 ITT Providers

5 Huddersfield University Teaching the PE Module to 10 students; Devising course programme; Organising an afternoon of lesson observations of my Year 6 class - Gymnastics and Games to link in with previous teaching. Focused assessment opportunity. Bought in for an extra days teaching during half- term; Evaluation – Very helpful advice and practical sessions. Thank you for your enthusiasm, ideas and positive attitude. Supremely good and very enjoyable!

6 Sheffield Hallam University Literacy – 1 st Year students - Ways of developing childrens understanding /response to literature. Addressed within the context of Goodnight Mr. Tom by Michelle Magorian. Cross-curricular links. 3 rd Year students – Literacy planning – Long Term, Medium Term, Short Term, Assessment and Target Setting. Video of a complete lesson as evidence of good practice.

7 Leeds University Geography – Delivered to all 180 students – Sharing my experiences of a Year 4 days visit to study a local stream – activities and benefits. Geography specialists – Organising an off-site visit Generic – Working with other adults in school. Evaluation – Mrs. Martin planned this work very well so that it complimented and supported the input from University tutors. The content of her lectures was well informed by research and personal experience.

9 Leeds Metropolitan University Inclusion Project based in school working with Year 6 children; focus – Boys writing, is it an issue? 8 students working on 2 consecutive Mondays with mixed ability and gender groups on fiction and non- fiction genres, to enable the students to consider their focus. AST involved in the assessment of student Power Point presentations with University tutor.

10 Benefits to ITT and the AST ITT – Credibility; Up-to-date experience – I did this yesterday; Experience of new initiatives and their delivery; Practical examples. AST – Challenging – organisation and delivery of materials; Confidence; Enjoyment / Rewarding / Being valued. ************************* Where can we go from here?
