KF1: The purposes of collecting relevant and detailed information about performance i. Collect general data from a ‘match’ (full performance) situation, to highlight where in your performance the problem(s) lie. (WHAT?) ii. Adopt one of the following methods of analysis to collect specific data, which can be used to establish the cause of the problem(s). (WHY?) There are two stages when analysing performance:

In order to identify strengths and weaknesses within a game of badminton we use a Match Analysis sheet. This is known as initial data. (Why?) In order to identify specific strengths and weaknesses within an individual technique we use a focussed observation schedule (movement analysis). Our technique is compared to that of a model performer Also you will be able to see where shots are played from and where they land using a scatter diagram. These are also known as types of focused data. (Why?) KF1: The purposes of collecting relevant and detailed information about performance

Match Analysis Sheet (Initial data) Gives a breakdown of different shots. Establishes strengths and weaknesses within the whole game. Re-use after your improvement programme. KF1: The purposes of collecting relevant and detailed information about performance

Movement Analysis Focussed data Benefits of Using a PAR Sheet i.Gives detailed information about a particular stroke/skill ii.Identifies Strengths & Weaknesses of a skill iii. Pinpoints specifically where weaknesses lies iv. Improvement programme can be designed from the information gathered v.You can re test at the beginning, during and at the end of a improvement programme to see if your technique has improved

Appropriateness of Data Collection MA-Valid, reliable and easy to complete PAR-Data gathered has highlighted how effective your strokes are MA-Strengths and weaknesses and the shots you played most, how consistent your shots were and what shots won you points MA-Highlights if you have a good range of shots (varied shot making) PAR -Highlights which part of the skill is technically correct and which parts are not. Video: permanent record, which allows you to see your technique and compare to PAR sheet All-Good source of positive feedback and permanent record PAR-Gives a good indication of what stage of learning you are at. (Cognitive, Associate and Autonomous) MA-Knowledge of consistency, it will highlight how effective you are in pressure situations (movement could be an issue) PAR-You are able to tell where the smash is a weakness. Scatter- Shows where smash lands –corners/centre/down lines

Choose a skill and describe the method of analysis you used to identify this skill or technique as a strength in your performance. (3) Explain why you consider this method to be appropriate. (2)

Devise practices for the appropriate stages of learning Apply the principles of effective practice Use training diary. KF2: Creation of plan using information collected about performance

Repeat general and focused schedules at appropriate times during the practice programme to allow progress to be measured. Keep a training diary of relevant information. It will include what drills you completed on a day to day basis. Furthermore you will write down how you felt during practices, do you feel your technique is improving? 2 things you did well one area that needs improvement. KF3: Reviewing & monitoring improvements made through relevant training program
