1. Engineering Design Central Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
3
1.1Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign. Identify the problem Research the problem Develop solutions Select the best solution Construct a prototype Test and evaluate Communicate the solutions Redesign Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
4
Identify the problem Identify the problem in need of a solution. To design, build, and program a robot capable of winning a race over twenty feet. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
5
Research the problem Examine the current state of the issues and current solutions. We looked up different information on gear ratios to get the robot to move faster. We learned that we can't gear up too much, because then there won't be enough power to move the robot. Explore other options via the internet http://mrcrokesrobotics.weebly.com/all-about-gears.html http://www.wikihow.com/Determine-Gear-Ratio Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
6
Develop solutions Brainstorm For this step we broke off and each developed our own compound gear setup. We each took in to consideration to not gear it up too much so it would actually move.
7
Select the best Possible solution(s) We combined some of the ideas from each of our setups and initial designs to make the first prototype. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

9
Construct a prototype See the above pictures on my website. That is the first prototype. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
10
Test and Evaluate the solution(s) Does it work? YES Does it meet the original design constraints? YES Can it be manufactured? YES Is it safe? ENOUGH… NOT FOR THOSE UNDER 3 What happens to the products when its useful life is finished? IT STOPS BEING BOUGHT AND THE COMPANY THAT PRODUCED IT GOES BANKRUPT Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006 Use GoAnimate.com to respond to the questions
11
Communicate the solution(s) The final robot design prototype was able to move the twenty feet in a measly 4 seconds and move straight. This means it went 5ft/s which is pretty fast if I do say so myself. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006 Publish your GoAnimate video!
