MA Programme: BRICS countries in a Globalizing World Maria Guzikova, Deputy Director Institute of Social and Political Sciences Ural Federal University

The MA program is prepared within the framework of the BRICS Global Education Initiative and is based on Federal standards of Higher Professional Education “Foreign Area Studies”. Duration – 2 years (120 ECTS)

Emphasis during education is made upon the following: - Interdisciplinary methods of current research; - BRICS countries and current global issues; - BRICS countries in global politics; - institutional and legal regulatory foundations of BRICS; - business-culture and economic regulation within BRICS; - financial policy in BRICS countries; - challenges of social and cultural transformation in BRICS countries.

Future employment upon graduation may occur in the following fields: - spheres of cooperation of BRICS countries; - economy, political development, culture of BRICS countries; - governmental and non-governmental organizations working within the framework of BRICS cooperation.

The MA Program “BRICS Countries in the Globalizing World” prepares its graduates for the following types of professional activity: - practical and organizational activity; - expertise and analysis; - academic research.

Upon completion of the Program graduates are expected to develop the following competencies and skills: - Recognizing trends and producing forecast about development of BRICS countries; - Designing research-and-development and research-and-analysis studies of BRICS issues; - Organizing and management of analytical activities when dealing with BRICS countries; - Organizing practical business within BRICS; - Using relevant legal and regulatory documents in doing business with BRICS partners.

Students will study two languages: English and the language of a one of the country which they choose to be their specialization.

English is the language of instruction both for Russian and for foreign students, Exchange students are offered to study Russian.

Students are expected to do an internship, preferably in their country of specialization as well as spend a certain period of study time in one of the partner universities in form of: -A semester -A short-term course and an internship.
