I NDIAN R EMOVAL A CT !

F OCUS Q UESTION -  Based on the current living conditions of Americans and natives was the Indian removal act Justified?

H OW IT ALL STARTED : In Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, north Carolina, and Florida, native Americans lived on millions of acres of land. President Andrew Jackson passed the Indian removal act, witch gave the power to re-locate any Native Americans in the east territory that have been west of the Mississippi river. This was not done fairly and led to further destruction of diminishing numbers of the eastern tribes.

L IVING C ONDITIONS : N ATIVES T HEN N ATIVES N OW 40% of countries four a million natives live on reservations They weren't aloud to live on the same land as us. When we sent them away they weren’t aloud to bring ANYTHING except the clothes on there back. They live among us They are aloud to work in our local stores and local jobs all around the country There allowed to do every thing we can do. They have the same rights as us Americans right now.

T RAIL OF TEARS ! After Andrew Jackson kicked the natives America and of there land, in 1836 the federal government drove the creeks from there land for the last time. 3500 of the 15000 who set out for Oklahoma did not survive the long journey to southeastern states. The Cherokee people were divided but some wanted to stay and fight against American soldiers.

A NDREW J ACKSON Q UOTES o “It will be my sincere in constant desire to observe toward the Indian tribes within our limits a just and liberal policy, and to give that humane and confederate attention to there rights and there wants witch is consistent with the habits of our government and the feeling of our people” –Andrew Jackson March4, 1829 o "After a harassing warfare, prolonged by the nature of the country and by the difficulty of procuring subsistence, the Indians were entirely defeated, and the disaffected band dispersed or destroyed. The result has been creditable to the troops engaged in the service. Severe as is the lesson to the Indians, it was rendered necessary by their unprovoked aggressions, and it is to be hoped that its impression will be permanent and salutary." -- Andrew Jackson

WHY A NDREW J ACKSONS Q UOTES ARE SO IMPORTANT : We choose these quotes for some important reasons. We choose the first one because it was the First Annual Message to Congress. He had been talking about the beliefs of the American people. We had choose the second quotes for a big reason. That quote had shown what Andrew Jackson had really believed about the native Americans. This also was the Fourth Annual Message to Congress.

F OCUS QUESTION ANSWER … Hannah and Lauren choose that… Andrew Jackson did the WRONG thing for many reasons. He could of spared many lives without trying to get rid of the Indians. They were forced out with no say, which they were supposed to get. We also could share the land like we do now without any blood shed. Us Americans could've saved the big fuss over it.
