What is Formative Assessment? A process used by teachers and students during instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students’ achievement of intended instructional outcomes. The formative assessment process involves gathering evidence and providing feedback to adjust ongoing teaching moves and learning tactics. (FAST) State Collaborative on Assessment and Student Standards (SCASS) of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)

SAGE Formative Features Designed for grades K-12 ELA, math, and science teachers Provides educators access to a bank of items similar in look and feel to SAGE Summative assessments that are linked to the Utah State Standards Allows educators, administrators, and LEAs to create targeted formative assessments that measure student understanding of specific standards in ELA, math, and/or science Allows educators to create resources that can be shared with other educators including multiple-choice, multi-select, table match, and hand- scored text response activities

SAGE Formative Features Provides assignment summary, item analysis, and benchmark reports at the classroom level enabling data-informed instruction Facilitates flipped learning, remediation, and extended learning, because students and families have access to teacher-selected resources outside the classroom Compatible with mobile devices (ex. iPads, Android tablets, Chromebooks, etc.)

Activity: individual component of a resource—a lesson, a practice question, or a quiz question Resource: educational materials and instructional aids (must contain at least one activity; may include stimulus & items Assignment: a collection of student activity resources (a quiz or test)

SAGE Formative Key Terminology Stimulus: a component in a resource that provides context for an activity—includes reading passages, images, graphs, tables, video or audio clips Stem: question or prompt in an activity that students must respond to Content Editor: tool in the Activity Builder that is used to align activities to standards, and to create and edit the content for activities and stimuli

SAGE Formative Roles Educator: –School Educators are school-level user, such as teachers, who may be associated with class rosters. –Administrative Educators are administrative, state, LEA, or school-level users who can create common assignments and edit entity-level libraries. Educator Group: A customizable group of educators who can collaborate on and share activities and resources with each other in the group’s shared library.

Resource Preview To preview a resource, click and a pop-up window will appear. To mark as a favorite, click the Favorite button from either the resource results page or the resource view

Resource Preview Actions include: - Open navigation pane- Print the resource - Zoom in or out- Mark as a favorite - Add to cart Note: To return to the resource results list, use the Back button in the upper left hand corner.

Resources that you add to the Resource Cart can be combined into a new resource or saved as an assignment.

Need Assistance with Differentiation? See Related Standards Prerequisite and follow-on standards related to a resource may be found by clicking on Related Standards and clicking one of the resulting options.

Related Standards Educators may scroll through benchmarks; the prerequisite and follow-on standards will display for each benchmark.

View Classes & Students This page shows the class rosters and students associated with a teacher. Change the View By filter to Students to see all students associated with a teacher. Click on the View Assignment button to view all assignments for the selected student

Assignments Page

The Assignments page has three filters: Active Assignments Assignments that have not yet passed the due date. This list also includes assignments that are not yet assigned to any students. Recently Completed Assignments Assignments that passed the due date within the last 14 days. Archived Assignments Assignments that are more than 14 days past the due date.

Managing Assignments For each assignment, you will be able to refresh, view the progress bar, and take the following actions: Edit Copy Delete Report

Assignment Summary Report Provides overall assignment information for selected assignments, including average scores and completion rates. Available for all rosters, a single roster, assigned students, or individual students

View Assignment Details: Item Analysis Report Allows you to view all the resource activities in an assignment, the overall analysis of each item, the actual activity item, and the raw item score analysis.

Student Summary Report Teachers can view and print a report that shows the student’s first name, last name, SSID and a list of all active assignments (assignment name and due date) given to the student. The information for each student will automatically print on separate pages.

Exporting Reports You can export the data in Assignment Summary, Benchmark Proficiency, and Item Analysis reports. The reports are exported as.csv files.

Exporting Roster Information Export roster information from the Classes/Groups table or the Students table. Exports roster information as.csv files, which you can open in Microsoft Excel and other.csv compatible programs.

How Do My Students Access SAGE Formative? Student access is through SSID numbers. When they log in for the first time each school year, they will use their SSID numbers as both their username and password. The system will force a password change. Teachers do not have access to student passwords. If students forget passwords, they will have to request another one. January 19, 201239
