The muting function can be activated only if two muting sensors are activated at the same time t2(s2) – t1(S1) = max. 4 seconds An opaque cylindrical object D ≤ 500 mm (= a person) must not be able to initiate the muting function (IEC TS 62046). The cylindrical test object is detected by the light curtain before it activates the muting sensors. The cylindrical test object activates a muting sensor and interrupts a beam of the light curtain before activating the second muting sensor. The muting function is not activated and the safety outputs of the light curtain are brought to the off-state. ON OFF OSSD

The crossing point of the two light beams S1 and S2 shall be located behind the sensing field of the ESPE in direction of the hazardous zone. t2(s2) – t1(S1) = 4 sec. max IEC TS 62046

Due to an incorrect positioning muting beams S1 and S2 the pallet keeps the safety light grid in Muting condition for a long time. If larger than 200 mm it could create a space sufficient to enter in the dangerous area IEC TS 62046

An object with a diameter of 500 mm must not be able to start the muting function. That gives assurance of a correct distinction between the material and a person. IEC TS 62046

The crossing point of the two sensor beams should be positioned at the same level as, or higher than, the lowest beam of the safety barrier in order to avoid easy manipulation of the system and unintentional activation of the muting function. IEC TS 62046

22 4 muting sensor with parallel muting beams with entry / exit pallet sequence timing control ( “T” sensor position) The muting sensors shall be installed so close to the safety barrier so that it is difficult to enter the danger zone without being detected by preceding or following immediately the pallet or the transport system (d1 e d3 < 200 mm). The distance between any 2 muting sensors shall be sufficient so that they cannot be actuated simultaneously by a persons leg (d2 > 250 mm). All the 4 sensors must to be simultaneously intercepted for at least a small period of time. IEC TS 62046
