1. Introduction We require to build a "measurement infrastructure" for the Internet. Some experts make the investigation into the measurement infrastructure : NIMI, IPMA, etc But these infrastructures also have some problems. Proposing an improvement architecture and a specific implementation diagram.

2. Analysis of measurement infrastructure An architecture for Internet measurement (1) NIMI : ( National Internet measurement infrastructure ) Goals : building a "measurement infrastructure" for the Internet. The emphasis: a generalized architecture for scalable measurement infrastructure. A scalable architecture may sustain full mesh measurement tools and data collection or analysis, the infrastructure maintenance, etc. Meet the demands of heterogeneity, manageability and controllable. The infrastructure can be carried out by NPD (Network Probe Daemon),which is deployed on network nodes.
6
NIMI Such an infrastructure consists of a collection of measurement "platforms," which are dedicated workstations sited at different locations around the network platform platform

NIMI NIMI properties : Scalable Flexible Security Problems : System crashed and failed to restart; updates required to NPD or measurement software
11
IPMA (2) IPMA : (Internet performance measurement and analysis ) The IPMA project is engaged in the following statistics research activities: Measurement and analysis of interdomain routing statistics, including: route flap, growth of routing tables, network topology, invalid routing announcements, Experimentation and deployment of the Mapper network topology monitoring tool developed by NLANR. Real-Time visualization of network routing and performance statistics
12
IPMA The IPMA collects a variety of network and interdomain routing statistics at each of Network Access Points (NAPs). These statistics provide valuable information on the performance of NAP media, the stability of network service providers, and serve as an early indicator of emerging network problems.

2. Analysis of measurement infrastructure Passive measurement projects: (1)NLANR---PMA project (2)MOAT NAI(Network analysis infrastructure) ( 3 ) CoralReef (CAIDA software)
16
Problems System crashed and failed to restart; updates required to NPD or measurement software; disk space exhausted; packet filter misconfigured; clock running berserk, etc. Hard facilities are incompatible for these infrastructure, data resource and software cannot be shared. It is difficult to deploy probe on the network backbone. The function and structure of the probing system are complex.

3. Improvement Measurement Architecture Idea 1. By improving NPD, we composing network probe platform (NPP) 2. Design a client application interface 3. Use a proxy to store configuration information and data resource 4. Establish the measurement information center ( MIC ) Distributed measurement of hierarchical architecture, provide data as web report. (IPMA)

5. Summary we survey the principle and property of present measurement infrastructure, and propose improving architecture. we present an implementation block-diagram on the basis of practical performing design. We have an idea about executing the plan on the CERNET and have prepared to do some work to facilitate the performing of the plan
