Review- 7th

Rules 1 right answer= 1 candy If you do not like the candy, hold onto it until the end of the class to replace it If you did not have the correct answer or did not do the assignment, jot down the correct answers for the test tomorrow If we do not get all the way through, this PowerPoint is on my website

What is Technology? Technology is comprised of the products and processes created by engineers to meet our needs and wants. What are different kinds of technology (products)?

What is an engineer/ engineering? Engineer- A person who is trained to solve practical problems through applying their knowledge of technology, science, and math. E.C.- What are the four big types of engineering? Big four- Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Electrical

Technology is comprised of the products and processes created by engineers to meet our needs and wants. What are needs? Needs- something that is essential to life. What are wants? Want- something that is desired. What are some examples of each? Vs.

What are inventions? Invent – Develop a new product, system, or process that has never existed before What are innovations? Innovate – Improve an existing technological product, system, or method

What is the process used by engineers to solve problems? The design process What is the definition of the design process? the step by step method to solving problems.

What is this?

What is a constraint? A constraint is a limitation or restriction placed on your project. Unlike criteria, a constraint is very defined. It either “is” or it “is not”. You must stay within a constraint. Going outside of a constraint can cause problems Usual constraints: cost, time, materials, minimum/ maximum, laws, features etc.

What is Brainstorming? Brainstorming- a group technique used to generate as many ideas for a possible solution. Why? -Fact: Your first idea is 99% of the time not the best. - Generating a overwhelming amount of ideas will make the decision process easier, as you can go back and review it. - Even if you know its bad write it down

What Is a Design Process? A design process is a step-by-step problem-solving strategy used to find the best possible solution. In a nut shell, it helps us take our ideas, allows us to choose the best one, and make them reality Images courtesy of NASA

What are the steps of the design process? 1.Define the Problem 2.Generate Concepts 3.Develop a Solution 4.Construct and Test a Prototype 5.Evaluate the Solution 6.Present the Solution This design process was developed based on the University of Maryland - College Park - IRB Research Project

What is the purpose of sketching? Sketching is a universal language that communicates ideas visually

What is this type of drawing called? 2D illustration of a 3D object Shows three faces of an object in one view Provides a realistic view of an object What is an isometric drawing?

What is this type of drawing called? What is a Multiview Drawing? Represents a 3-D object in two or more views drawn in 2-D Provides the shape description of an object.

What is an object line? Communicates the actual shape of an object Thick and dark Define the object

What is a hidden line? Communicates the hidden part of the object that you can not see in that view Even, dotted lines

Where is the front view?

Where is the top view?

Where is the right side view?

Which one is centimeters? Which one is inches? – Standard (Customary) - Metric (SI or International System)
