How Pathogens Are Spread Pathogens can be spread in a variety of methods: –Direct contact such as touching or handling bodily fluids –Airborne by coughing or sneezing –Contact with contaminated objects such as hypodermic needles

The Immune System Removes harmful organisms from the blood and combats pathogens The first line of defense - physical barriers such as skin and mucous membranes Cellular defense is composed of: Lymphocytes Active immunity Passive immunity
