Ethylene and carbon monoxide, along with a palladium (ıı) catalyst will produce a polyketone.

 Palladium (ıı) is rare, and has to be mined.  In Canada, it is mined in Sudbury, Ontario.

 Ethylene and carbon monoxide are extremely cheap. The chemistry involved in the reaction is very simple.  It is a crystalline structure, causing it to be very durable.

 Car Parts  Appliances  Electrical applications  Gears  Bearings  Tubing

 Carbonyls allow polyketones to be very strong crystals.

 Because there is a strong attraction between the molecules, there is a high melting point.

 Because of the tight bonds between the molecules and crystalline structures, polyketones are very brittle.

 When a methyl group is added onto the ethyl, it causes the structure to not bond together so tightly.

 When the methyl group, or propylene, is added to the polyketone the melting point drops.

 Products made from polyketones, such as car parts and other thermoplastics are recyclable.
