Think about a time when you purchased an item were and disappointed with the product. Examples: Did you request a plain cheeseburger, only to find it had mustard and onions? Did you save your money for a paint-gun and it jams every time you use it? Did you buy a pair of shoes and they were cheaply made? Select an item that disappointed you, and describe the experience below. Consider the following: Why did you buy the product in the fi rst place? Why were you disappointed? Do you recall seeing an advertisement for that product? What kinds of claims or persuasive techniques do you recall from that advertisement?

Identify one item (from your list) in which you were disappointed with the final product. Assignment: Write a letter to the company that makes the product you described in the previous step. Explain why you were not satisfied; focus on claims and persuasive techniques the company used in its advertising. Be sure to state a position: What do you want the company to do? Use the proper business letter format.

When writing a letter, use commas in the following manner: 1. In a date, place the comma after the day, prior to the year Example: January 13, 2012 2. In an address, place the comma after the city, prior to the state abbreviation. Example: 1234 Main Street Alexandria, KY 41001 3. In a friendly letter, place a comma after the salutation; in both friendly and business letters, place a comma after the closing. Example: Dear Mrs. Jones, Example: Sincerely,
