The challenge We must remember who we are. We deliver water efficiently to plants. We have to understand soils and plants. We can have opinions and preferences but we cannot assume the role of expert about soils and plants. We work cooperatively with other experts.

ICC Green Code Comment period closed on 01-03-2011 Comments submitted –Definitions about irrigation systems and methods –Broader definition of plants Adaptive species Invasive species Native species
4
ICC Green Code Definitions –Added additional water sources Freshwater, recycled water, stormwater –Water Budgeting and equations Comments –Open the door to use potable water –Eliminate language about 40% maximum turf –Water source should dictate type and quantity of vegetation –Metering only on municipally supplied water
5
ICC Green Code Comments Comments are shared and coordinated with ASIC ICC has asked for clarifications and we responded on 2-18-2011 All comments posted 3-25-2011 IGCC Code Hearing 5-16 to 5-22 Dallas Publish date March 2012

LEED IA has become a member Currently LEED 2012 is in progress Prerequisites and Credits (electives) –Areas that were credits before will become prerequisites Water Efficiency (WE) Prerequisite including water used for landscaping
8
Water Efficiency Prerequisite Landscape Water Use Reduction –Use EPA WaterSense Water Budget Tool –No potable water Comment: water efficiency is not the same as water use reduction
9
IA Comment to LEED IA Recommendation –Not all water sources are equal Quality, availability, laws –Water delivered by utility Potable Reclaimed –Water generated on site Rain water, graywater, storm water, recycled water Determines landscape vegetation
10
IA Comment to LEED Water Budget tool –SFR and potable water –Needs modification for commercial use Proposed –Climate appropriate water budget tool –If alternate water sources are to be used, then the landscape should be based on water supply generated on site –Use landscape to manage stormwater
11
Standards MOU with ASABE to be our preferred standards creator Proposed MOU between ICC and ASABE to create dual designated standards for irrigation
12
Sprinkler Standard ICC is selecting the committee 26 applications (9 positions) Mid-April the committee should be formed
