NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk The owl gave a loud hoot as John paused by the straw bales. The tall trees hid the little berth where the sailing boats were moored.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk His teeth chattered, as he paused for a moment. Carrie, his friend, did not speak. She was too tired to say anything, as their day at the seaside had been so fabulous.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk They had roamed the beach, scouting for shells. They found few of those, but they had some other finds: they found a covered mound in the sand dunes, covered by sand and soil.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk The recent storm had claimed lots of plants, when the sea stewed angrily, as it called in a constant boiling whoosh.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk The high waves had already taken a corner of the old wartime tower, as they charted their way up the coast.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk The sand bar had disappeared under the mauling current, as the raging sea showed its power.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk They also found a battered tray with a grainy picture of the Queen on it, and a rusty toy car. The ferns stirred then, causing them to look in each direction.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk They felt scared, as they took a turn down back on to the beach. John dug his elbow into Carrie’s ribs. “Let’s shoot off back to the road”, whispered John.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk The tightly planted fir trees which stood along the roadside were full of rooks, ready to call their grating squawk. Carrie’s patience was wearing thin.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk “You have the patience of a saint, John”, she exclaimed as she gripped his hand like a new born kitten’s paw curled over its eyes.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk “I knew I’d get you back safely, Carrie!” boasted John. They quickly passed the grey stone jail.

NGfL CYMRU GCaD www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk She could not wait to feel the joy and comfort of resting her head on her soft, warm pillow.
