Key Truth Answers Lesson Three
The doctrine of verbal inspiration means God BREATHED INTO human writers who wrote the Bible. This means the Bible is 100% TRUE in everything and tells us ALL we need to know about God and our salvation. The two main teachings of the Bible are the LAW, which shows that we are SINFUL and the GOSPEL which shows that we have a SAVIOR and gives us FAITH in him.

Opening Prayer Heavenly Father, I see evidence of your power all around me. In the world, in the sky, and in my own body. You have made a beautiful world for me, even if sin has destroyed much of its beauty. Father, many around me are saying you had nothing to do with it. They are robbing you of the honor and praise you deserve. I'm sorry for the times I've put my faith in them and their theories, rather than in you and your true Word. Help me to see you every day in all the ways you care for the world and especially how you care for me. Bless this study of your Word and use it to impress on me your love and care. I pray this as a believing child, through Jesus Christ. Amen. [Click to next slide]

GOD CREATED AND CARES FOR HIS WORLD
LESSON 4 GOD CREATED AND CARES FOR HIS WORLD In confirmation class we are beginning to learn about our triune God. In order to do this for the next few lessons we will be looking at the Apostle’s Creed. Let’s record a definition for a creed. [Click to next slide]

Homes [Parent read the following]
Here are pictures of three homes. Look at them closely for a moment or two. What might they tell you about the person who originally built each house. (answers may vary, but may include the following: original owner was quite rich or rather poor; preferred a certain type of roof or decorative style; preferred to live on one floor or was ready to climb steps to a second or third floor.) Hebrews 3:4 tells us that every house is built by someone, but God is the one who built and created everything in the universe. So we can tell some things about the builder of the world by looking at the “house” he built. But the way God built the world is a lot different from the way one of us might build a house. God created the world. That’s what our lesson today is about. We want to see how “God created and cares for his world.” [click to next slide]

GENESIS 1:1-2a 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, Now let’s see how God created and cares for his world. [Have your youth read the passage] Q. According to this passage, with what materials did God have to work when he created all things? God created all things from nothing. [Click to the next slide]

Psalm 33:6-9 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD ; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] According to verse 6, what “tool” did God use to create all things? God created all things by His almighty Word. (Parent Note – In the beginning of the Gospel of John, John identifies Jesus as the Word made flesh. Jesus – the Word – was with God in the beginning. This is why we say that Jesus as part of the Triune God was operative at Creation. The Spirit was hovering ove the face of the deep, God the Father created and the Word was the tool.) Exodus 20:11 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. According to this passage, how many normal days did it take for God to create all things? God created all things in six normal days. (Note – God linked the 7 days of creation with the 7 days of the week – six days they were to work and on the seventh day God rested so they were to rest as well.) [Click to next slide]

Genesis 1:31 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning-the sixth day. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. According to this verse, how is God’s creation described? All things were very good or perfect (Note – It is interesting that God did not say that things were very good until women were around. In fact – God even said that it was “not good for man to be alone. Wives remind your husbands of that – Ha! You’ll read about this incident later in the lesson.) [Click to next slide]

Creation Illustration
Click on this link to see a video of the six days of creation! [Click on the link in this presentation and watch the video on the 6 days of creation.] [If you have time please read Job chapters 38 and 39.] God was not happy with Job, and he made this evident to Job by asking him a whole bunch of questions, one after another. God listed many of the things he made in creation and then asked Job over and over again if he could make any of those things. God also asked Job a number of times where Job was when God made all those things. God’s point is that Job really didn’t know enough to begin to challenge God, because neither Job nor any other human being was around when God made everything. This is a truth that we need to remember also. No one saw God create the world. Only God was there, and he tells us how he formed and fashioned it in six days of 24 hours each. Who are we, or who is any human being, to dare to say that “God didn’t make the world”? So to follow any man-made theories about how the world began is not only foolish but dangerous, for it is only by faith that we know how this world came into being. [Click to next slide]
17
EVOLUTION The hypothesis that
All things came into being by chance, developing (evolving) from lower to higher forms One man made theory about how the world came into existence is called the theory of evolution. [Ask your youth to record the answer] [Click to next slide]

HEBREWS 11:3 3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. According to this verse, how is it that we understand that the universe was formed? Hebrews 11:3 says: By faith we understand that the universe was formed by the Word of God [Click to next slide]
26
GOD CREATED ALL THINGS Hebrews 11:3 says: By faith we understand that the universe was formed by the Word of God. [Ask your youth to record the answer] [Click to next slide]
27
Application Questions
Prove why this statement is true: It takes more faith to believe in evolution that it does to believe in creation. Evolution says that all the things in the world came about by chance. That is like saying an automobile just happened to come about all by itself. Evolution says that it took millions of years for changes to take place. Yet most of the scientific evidence in the world around us suggests that the world is not more than 10,000 to 20,000 years old. [Click to next slide]
28
Application Questions
Your science textbook may say that the human race is part of the animal kingdom. Give a number of reasons why that statement is wrong. God made the first man and woman in a different way than he made the animals. God made people to rule over the rest of creation, including the animals. God gives each of us a soul in addition to a body; he doesn’t make any animal with a soul. [Click to next slide]
29
Application Questions
People who believe in evolution rather than the Bible’s account of creation have a whole different view of human life. Why? Evolutionists often see man as nothing more than a highly developed animal. They believe that once a man dies, he, like an animal, is gone forever. They also believe that if there is a god, he really doesn’t have as much to do with people – he doesn’t protect people, he doesn’t care whether they have enough to eat or not, he doesn’t care whether they sin or not, and so on. [Click to next slide]
30
Application Questions
Agree or Disagree: A person cannot be a Christian if he or she believes the theory of evolution. It certainly is true that a person could believe in evolution and still believe that Jesus is God’s Son, who died to take away all our sins. But since evolution is a lie of the devil it is a cancer that can eat away at saving faith. If you deny that God made the world and people, then you could eventually also be led to believe that maybe God doesn’t punish people for sin. And if you begin to doubt that God punished sin, then Jesus’ saving work won’t be very important to you either. In this way Satan can use evolution to get people to love Jesus less and maybe even eventually to forget about him completely. [Click to next slide]

GENESIS 1:27 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. According to this passage, in whose image were Adam and Eve created? A. They were created in the image of God (holiness, sinfulness) (Note – the image of God does not mean that people looked like God – rather as we read in Ephesians 4:24 the image or likeness of God includes being perfect and holy) (Click to the next slide)

GENESIS 2:18-25 18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." 19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, [4] ' for she was taken out of man." 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. 25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. This passage describes how God made Adam realize that he was alone. It also describes how God took care of that problem. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. According to this verse 22, what did God create for Adam? He created a woman. What do we call the special blessing when a man and women come together as husband and wife? Marriage (home, family) [Click to next slide]

GENESIS 2:15-17 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following question] Q. God put Adam in a beautiful garden, and gave him a job and instructions. God had richly blessed Adam. By giving him a command to follow, what opportunity was God giving Adam. A. God was giving Adam The opportunity to show his thankfulness. [Click to next slide]

40
Application Questions
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil has been called Adam and Eve’s altar. Why is that description fitting? God’s people have always shown their appreciation for God’s grace by doing what he wants. We often think of an altar as a place where we show our thanks to God. By obeying God’s command to not eat from the tree, they were saying thanks at their “altar.” [Click to next slide]

JOHN 6:1-15 1Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. 3Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Feast was near. 5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" 8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" [Have your youth read the passage] [Click to next slide]
45
JOHN 6:1-15 10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. 14After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." 15Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself. [Have your youth continue reading the passage then ask the following question] According to verse 14 what do we call what Jesus did? A. A miraculous sign Therefore, as Jesus did in this incident, how does God sometimes care for his world? A. God cares for his world by miracles when he wants [Click to next slide]

His Word in My Life Reflect on your needs vs. wants. Is there anything that has become more of a want than an actual need? The goal of this discussion is not to make us sell all we own and give it to the poor. It is rather to bring about a confession that many of the things that we have and focus on are wants rather than needs. Close the discussion by asking God to bring the balance back to your life.

56
Application Questions
Agree or disagree: Sometimes God actually causes bad things to happen so that he has a chance to use them for our good. God may allow suffering and trials into our lives as pat of his divine plan for us. This is not evil because God is love and he knows how they will for our good. We might see them as bad things because we cannot see how he plans to use them for our good. At other times God allows Satan or the world around us to do something bad to us because he knows that he will make it work for our good. (Perhaps, you could talk about a time when this became very apparent to you) (Take some time to talk about a time in your life when this truth became very clear.)

Matthew 6:31-34 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. In this passage Jesus tells us that we don’t have to worry about food, drink and clothing or the future like an unbeliever might. [Have your youth read the passage then ask the following questions] According to verse 32 why don’t we need to worry? We don’t need to worry because the Father knows what we need. According to verse 33, what is God capable of doing? He is capable of providing our needs. We can therefore trust him as our Maker and Preserver (vs. worry). [Click to next slide]

Application Questions
Evaluate this statement: If I continue sinning, the LORD is probably going to remove the roof from over my head, the food from my table, and the clothes from my back. God doesn’t take care of us because we deserve it but only because he forgives and has mercy on us. Because we appreciate his goodness, we won’t excuse our sins. Instead, his love will lead us to thank him by the way we live.
67
Application Questions
Agree or Disagree: As long as I say my table prayers, I can be sure I am thanking God to his satisfaction. This statement sounds as if the speaker is saying his prayers only because he has to, not because he wants to. In thanking God, we don’t ask, “Well, Lord, is that enough thanking to satisfy you?” Instead, we just continue thanking God as much as we can, because what he does for us never stops.
68
His Word in My Life Discuss a situations in your life that tempts you or your youth to worry. Confess them to each other and to the LORD. Ask the LORD for a stronger trust and greater thankfulness for what he does provide.
