2 NEPAL AND THE RELATION TO SOLD Lakshmi is a thirteen year old girl that lives in a small village in Nepal with her family. Until, one day big showers came and ruined her family crop, so she had to go to India to work as a maid. When she got to India, her becoming a maid didn’t happen, but MUCH worse…

3 BACKGROUND INFORMATION Nepal is located in between India and China. The capital is Kathmandu The first settlers were Kirat people. The Nepal Flag became the official flag on December 16 th, 1962. The population is about 28,951,852 since 2010. The country is about the size of Arkansas Nepal holds Mount Everest. The tallest mountain on earth, and its height is 29,035 ft. 4 KING Between 1846 – 1951, Nepal has been ruled by the Rana family. The Rana family only had a Prime Minister. Which meant no king. Then in 1951, the king took over. Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah became king in 1955. After dying of a heart attack, Prince Birendra took over at age 26. On June 1 st, 2001 King Birendra was shot and killed by his son, Crown Prince Dipendra. Then Crown Prince shot his mother because he was angry with the wife she had picked for him. He also shot several other royal members before committing suicide. The new ruler of Nepal is Prince Gyanendra. The younger brother of King Birendra.

5 NEPAL FLAG Nepal is the only country to not have a rectangular or square flag. The two symbols are the moon and sun. It is said that the nation will last as long as the sun and moon is there on earth. The blue border represents peace. The red represents rhododendron, the color of the national flower.
