2. History In the past JCHS only offered the youth apprenticeship program as a work based learning option.

3. Future Beginning in the Fall 2007 JCHS began offering internships, co-ops, and employability skills development as well as youth apprenticeship as work based learning options. In the Summer 2008 JCHS was awarded the Career Related Education Grant to implement the re-engineered version of work based learning.

4. Benefits More JCHS students will be eligible for work based learning opportunities. A seamless transition from high school to post- secondary training to work will become a reality for more JCHS students. More opportunities to “grow our own” workforce. Paid students contribute to the local economy. Last year the WBL students at JCHS grossed over $100,000.

5. Work Based Learning Options Employability Skills Development- available to allow students to develop basic employability skills in entry level jobs (only 25% of total WBL enrollment) Internships- students must have taken a course in a CTAE area and the internship must be in the field of study Co-op- a student must be currently enrolled in a CTAE course related to the work experience Youth Apprenticeship- highly skilled work experience related to the CTAE the student is studying. A progressive wage must be paid. The student must accumulate 2000 hours of work experience and a post- secondary credential to complete this program

7. Stakeholders in WBL WBL student- turn in work/wage record, portfolio, evaluated on employability skills and technical skills related to the job WBL employer- follow labor laws, safety training, develop a training plan for the student, evaluate the student on employability skills and technical skills related to the job and participate in the JCHS WBL advisory committee WBL coordinator- insure all pertinent documents are signed by the student, parents and employer, recruit students and employers, assist the employer in developing a training plan, make work site visits, coordinate the WBL advisory committee, track current and former students and record all data on a statewide database
