The body of knowledge that deals with Earth and its place in the universe is called earth science .
3
What is a system? A group of parts that work together as a whole.. .
4
Explain how Earth can be considered a system.
Because a change in one of its parts can produce a change in the other parts.
5
What is the source of energy for many processes on Earth’s surface?
The sun provides energy for many processes on Earth’s surface. For example, the sun’s energy causes water to evaporate from the surface of oceans, lakes, and rivers. This is the water cycle.
6
Compare and contrast the effect of constructive forces and destructive forces on Earth’s surface.
Constructive forces = build mountains and land masses on the earth’s surface. Destructive forces = wear away mountains and other surface features.
7
What is one reason that scientists are interested in studying other planets and objects in the solar system? Planets and other objects in the solar system provide evidence that can help scientists understand the Earth and its history.

Why do Earth scientists often use models and computer simulations?
Earth scientists use models and simulations to study processes and features that are too large and complex, or take place over too long a time.
12
Is the following sentence true or false?
Some information about an object or process may be missing from a model. TRUE
