GIS mapping software for computers
 GIS is “real-time” and layers maps to see patterns. (a “sandwich of maps”)
 Can see the entire World from above! Columbus would’ve been jealous!

4. Place Names Names of places change Examples: Formosa -> Taiwan
China claims it owns Taiwan.
B. Palestine –> Israel
Palestinians own West Bank and Gaza Strip but Israel controls them

Colonization is when a country takes over other countries or parts of the world.
->1800s European countries control Africa.
In the 1960s African nations got independence and the map was redrawn
