Building a Mock Universe Cosmological nbody dark matter simulations + Galaxy surveys (SDSS, UKIDSS, 2dF) Access to mock catalogues through VO Provide analysis tools, data search and retrieval, mock observations Publish all the required software for each stage in the development of the mock universe so that users can repeat them using other galaxy surveys/dark matter properties,
5
Data Formats Raw particle data (positions and velocities), separate database, particle data can be retrieved on demand for defined halos/sub-halos Mock catalogue containing dark matter halo/galaxy/gas parameters, VOtable format, users able to query, mine and retrieve data using analysis tools
6
Data types Simulation definitions:# particles box size Code (TPM, PPPM) input cosmological constants gravitational softening length initial density perturbations galaxy survey used Derived from simulation:particle positions, velocities halo parameters – masses, radii, z profile parameters halo hierarchy baryonic parameters

Web Services – Analysis Tools Catalogue data query/retrieval service (i.e. find all halos in redshift or mass range) Standard Analysis tools (Halo occupation distributions, two point correlation functions) Mock observation tools - simulate real observations i.e. lensing studies, clustering statistics (as would be observed), ray tracing. An ideal test for observational techniques designed to measure cosmological parameters
