Status Brussels GANTRY Ê Overview of the pilot run (second week of October) 4 aims and achievements 4 accuracy on position and angles 4 residual features Ë Position 3 on the plates Ì Outlook Jorgen D’Hondt CMS Tracker End Cap meeting – 22 th of October 2003

Overview of the pilot run Mod1Mod2 Mod3 Supply plate ++ Assembly plate 2 plates were used for R6 modules (plates R6.1 and R6.2) – only position 1 and 2 Aim : 15 modules / 5 days Achievement : 11 modules / 3.5 days We stopped due to crash of hard disk !
3
Residual features Ê New capton for the frames (used for the first time) increased thickness by ~100 m ï vacuum leakage on both R6 plates solved by placing small tape washers ~120 m (cheap, easy and replaceable) 4 but still a small vacuum leak on plate 2 (R6.2) under the sensors ï could be solved relatively easy in the future 4 mostly plate 1 (R6.1) was used during pilot run Ì In total 11 modules have been assembled 4 plate R6.1 : 8 modules (6 valied) 4 plate R6.2 : 3 modules (0 valied) Í But…

5
Angle precision Control Criterion : chooses worst angle out of four… If pattern recognition fails for one marker, then module not valied ! frequency should be checked and criterion changed sensor

Residual features Ê New capton for the frames (used for the first time) increased thickness by ~100 m ï vacuum leakage on both R6 plates solved by placing small tape washers ~120 m (cheap, easy and replaceable) 4 but still a small vacuum leak on plate 2 (R6.2) under the sensors ï could be solved relatively easy in the future 4 mostly plate 1 (R6.1) was used during pilot run Ì In total 11 modules have been assembled 4 plate R6.1 : 8 modules (6 valied) 4 plate R6.2 : 3 modules (0 valied) Í But… after taking the angle feature into account plate R6.1 : 8 modules (8 valied) plate R6.2 : 3 modules (0 valied) successful pilot-run taking into account the residual problems
7
Precision tests Precision of the position of the sensors after assembly (x-y plane of GANTRY) No significant or systematic effect after curing (done on second vacuum pump)
8
Precision tests We did the same for some dry assemblies … similar observations
9
Position 3 on the plate Problem between 3 th and 4 th column in y-direction Shift calibration file with more than 3 columns thanks to G.Pasztor and T.Rusell Karlsruhe measurement Gantry measurement

Outlook for Brussels GANTRY Ê Solve the residual vacuum leak on plate R6.2 4 should take some days (in parallel) Ì Adapt the calibration file to solve the position 3 problem Í New calibration plate from Bari arrived in Brussels 4 re-calibration of GANTRY (~2 days) º Prepare GANTRY for R5N and R5S 4 should take ~3 days » Prepare GANTRY for R3 4 should take ~3 weeks è in theory we should be ready early december ¼ Waiting for hybrids till about the same time…
