Project #2 Journals/ Paper Weaving Please get out a piece of paper and something to write with!

LOOM: A frame (or machine) on which the weaving is done

Vertical Position when it is aligned in an “up-down” direction

Horizontal Position when it is aligned in an “left to right” direction, or parallel to the horizon

WARP The lengthwise threads in a woven fabric. Warp threads are strung on the loom before weaving begins.

WEFT The horizontal threads which are woven across the warp. (WEFT and WARP threads are interlaced in weaving)

SHUTTLE The stick or boat like container which holds the WEFT threads.

Pattern A design or motif that is regularly repeated

Motif A distinctive and recurring form, shape, figure, etc…in a design

How the project will be GRADED … JOURNALS/Paper Weaving Product (Contents): Create a personal journal by paper weaving 2 sides a front and back of a journal Must paper weave both sides of the journal - in which you may use the same technique or a different technique for each side Must be trimmed with no frayed pieces showing

Process (Craftsmanship): Journal must be stapled with 2 top staples or 2 side staples in a neat and organized manner… Include a cover and a back Contains at least 25 sheets of paper Must look clean, neat, and organized

Studio time: Stayed on task Worked continuously throughout the class period Clean-up PUT SUPPLIES AWAY WHERE THEY GO! Make up any missed days: That means excused or unexcused, 3 tardies = 1 absence
