1. One-To-One Instruction How to install MS Exchange with a two user setup on Windows Server 2003

2. Purpose The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how to install Microsoft Exchange 2003 with two users on Windows Server 2003. The users will be able to log onto the domain using a workstation computer (Windows XP) and check their email using Microsoft Outlook. They will have the ability to also send and receive emails to other people within the same network as them.

3. Background Information Microsoft Exchange Server is a collaborative software server from Microsoft, positioned as a rival to the Lotus Notes / Domino server from IBM and recently challenged by a number of Linux-based competitors, first and foremost Scalix. The use of Microsoft Exchange is very widespread in large corporations using Microsoft infrastructure solutions. Among other things, Microsoft Exchange manages electronic mail, and is thus a popular mail server.

4. Minimum System Requirements To successfully outlay the installation, the computer systems in which are being used must be able to handle to software that is going to be installed. 5. Implementation After setting up Active Directory and creating a new domain, it is now possible install MS Exchange Server 2003 and allow for users to send/receive e-mail. For this document we are using the domain perisic.local.

6. Network Connection Setup The first stage is to setup the network connection so that it is possible for the user to log onto the workstation and receive e-mails through the use of an IP address. Click Start > Network Connections > Right click on first available connection > Properties General > Right click > Properties “Internet Protocol” > OK

7. Network Connection Setup Select “Use the following IP Address” Enter a valid IP address, subnet and DNS which the workstation PC can utilise IP Address = 192.168.70.10, Subnet = 255.255.0.0, DNS = 192.168.70.10 > OK

8. Support Tools Setup The second stage is to install the support tools on Server 2003. It is important that these tools are installed as they are critically needed in regards to the sending and receiving of e-mails. Insert the Windows Server 2003 disc into the CD-Drive Open My Computer > Double click on the CD-Drive

9. Support Tools Setup Open Folder(s) > English > Standard > Support > Tools Double Click on “suptools.msi” Click Next > Enter Name and Organisation > Install Now > Finish

10. Windows Component Tools Setup This setup allows support for certain operations to be performed in relation to internet services such as FTP and Front Page 2000 extensions. Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Windows Components Wizard Then click on Application Server and then Details

11. Windows Component Tools Setup Tick Application Server Console, ASP.NET, Enable Network COM+ Access and Internet Information Services (IIS) Click on IIS > Details Tick > Front Page, Internet Information Services Manager, NNTP, SMTP, World Wide Web Service > OK

12. MS Exchange Installation The purpose of this stage is to install MS Exchange Server to primarily allow the sending and receiving of emails within an organisation. Insert the MS Exchange CD into the CD-Drive My Computer > CD Drive Double Click on Exchange Icon > Click on English > Exch2003 > Standard >Setup.exe

13. MS Exchange Installation The Exchange window should now appear, select Exchange Deployment Tools Select Exchange Deployment Tools > New Exchange 2003 Installation When screen appears click Run Forest Prep

14. MS Exchange Installation Click Next > I Agree > Next > Next Create a New Exchange Organisation > Next > Name Organisation > Next > Agree > Next > Finish Perform the same process for Domain Prep and Run Setup Now Once this is complete, exit the setup by clicking on the “x”, top right hand of the screen

15. Error Check It is important to check for networking errors during the installation of this system. Therefore, a process has been added to ensure reliability of the system. After installing MS Exchange the process to check the reliability and efficiency of the network is as follows; Click Start > Run > Type dcdiag

16. Error Check On Command Prompt load, the command which to be typed in is dcdiag /s:%DCNAME% For this example, the domain control name (DCNAME) is P1COMP8 Type in “dcdiag /s:%DCNAME%” > Enter If no errors have come up, then type “in netdiag” After this process, check to see if any problems arise, if any contact the network administrator

17. User Setup This setup is for the purpose of users to be implemented onto the system, allowing them to sign in on their account from different computers through the domain i.e. perisic.local Click Start > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers On load, Right Click on domain > New > Organisational Unit > Name the group > OK

18. User Setup Right Click on the new group > New > User Enter user details > Next Enter password > Tick ONLY Password Never Expires > Next Tick Create an Exchange Mail Box (ensure all details are filled in) > Next > Finish Once completed, repeat process for one more user

19. User Setup Right click on one of the users who is set to be administrator Select Properties Click on the Member Of tab > Add > Advanced

20. User Setup Click Find Now and wait for the results to appear in bottom window Select all results/objects with “Admins and Administrator” in the filename > OK

21. User Setup Ensure that the objects; Administrator, DnsAdmins, Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, Schema Admins have been selected and appear in the filed > OK Click Apply > Close Active Directory Users and Computers

22. Domain Log On- Testing Stage The purpose of the user logging on to the domain is to test whether or not they can successfully send an email and is the email able to be received. It is important to test this process as it is the main objective of the tutorial. Log on to Windows XP system Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Select Computer Name tab Click Change > Enter details of workstation and domain Click OK

23. Domain Log On- Testing Stage Set the IP address of the computer so that it can network with the domain IP Address = 192.168.60.10 Subnet Mask = 255.255.0.0 Preferred DNS= 192.168.70.10 Click OK

24. Domain Log On- Testing Stage Open Outlook and Select Microsoft Exchange Server > Next Enter the correct details to the Microsoft Server System Computer Name = P1COMP8 User Name = mperisic Click Check Name > Next

25. Domain Log On- Testing Stage Click on the New Message icon on the toolbar Enter the details for sending an email, making sure it is the user you logged in as, so the results can come through without logging off then back on Type Test in the Subject line and Test in the text box Click Send

26. Domain Log On- Testing Stage Go to Inbox Click Send and Receive Icon Email should be received, if not, close Outlook and re-open. If any other problems endure, retrace the steps of the installation Setup Complete
