Pink Dolphins can also be called the Chinese white dolphin because at different stages of life these dolphins change colour. New borns are usually dark grey and about 1 meter long as they get older they gradually turn pink. Adult pink dolphins have body lengths up to 2.7metres and can weigh up to about 250kg. Pink Dolphins can also live up to be 40. Pink Dolphin growth colour cycle.

The Pink Dolphins live around Lantau Island, as well as Deep water Bay. The Pearl River Delta, between Hong Kong and Macau, is home to around a thousand Pink Dolphins. The Pink dolphin species require shallow, sheltered, estuarine waters. They are usually seen around the rocky, reef seabed islands.

Pink dolphin’s eat 20 different species of fish. They usually like to eat Croaker, Lion-head croaker and Thryssa. The Pink dolphin are a friendly species like most dolphins. They can bend the upper part of their body forward, slap the water with their fins and do head bobbing. They can also swim at high speeds.

The size of the pink dolphin’s home have been decreased quite a lot because of the construction of the new airport in Chek Lap Kok. The harbors are already busy enough with different boats traveling to and fro. Over the last few years Pink dolphin watching has become a big tourist attraction. The water quality is very bad in Hong Kong so the pink dolphins find it hard to live in filth. This injury has been cause by a careless vessel. This was found in a fish catch and had been killed.

Pink dolphins in Hong Kong are protected under two rules, the Wild Animal Protection and the Animals and Plants rulings. The government has made 4 marine parks near the Lantau area set up for pink dolphin protection. They have rules too. Sha Chau & Lung Kwu Chau Marine Park Both the Wild Animal Protection and the Animals and Plants ruling states that harassing, harming, killing or trading Pink dolphins is illegal.

In the 1990’s there were a lot of rumors of the Pink dolphin species to be an endangered animal and that the whole population would be extinct by the year 2000. These rumors have been proven wrong it is the year 2008, there are still hundreds of pink dolphins swimming in Hong Kong waters. ? Researchers say that there are about 300 Pink dolphins in Hong Kong. But the amount of population had dropped 40% in 11 years. This data gave the government a wake up call.
