I did not think it would be as fun as it was. I had a great time being creative. It was A LOT more fun than I expected. More fun and so much less scary than expected. I didn’t think it would be that much work. I didn’t expect to anchor but I did. And it turned out to be fun. More stressful but more fun than expected I didn’t expect to learn this much out of announcements. I learned a lot about PowerPoints & computers. It was more work, more fun, & more exciting. I’d do it again. I knew it would be fun. Seriously, Mr. Culp is the teacher! Although it’s a lot of work, it’s the best part of the school day. You can enjoy it & make memories I expected this to be difficult. But if you just do a little bit every day you will be on time.

It was a lot of fun…but you have to work hard. Made new friendships. And anchoring is so fun. Learning how to make really cool backgrounds. I liked creating our own backgrounds and getting to anchor our own script. I got to make announcements so if I thought it was dumb it was my fault. It was fun seeing how everything worked and fit together. That I can do something and be productive while working with friends Outtakes – it’s funny when people mess up :0 Creativity to choose how we broadcast. Coming up with crazy & weird scripts/backgrounds WatchWorking with friends & seeing what you worked all week on ing how much all of our hard work pays off Becoming a family – not just 5 different teams of students. You get to know people and do something instead of just writing on paper. (2) You have a chance to make announcements how you want them I enjoyed writing scripts most because I had a platform to be creative

Getting to school early and having a teammate who didn’t contribute Calendar. Mr. Culp being upset at our team’s lateness Knowing the whole school is watching Coming in early Getting everything done on time Keeping team focused Remembering to put all the info into the scripts Last minute additions Losing the flash drive :( (Not a problem anymore thanks to Google Drive) Getting into a groove of how things worked Making the script sound real

Practice with the projector before the actual broadcast. Responsibilities chart. More news from outside school (2) I wish I anchored sooner so I could practice being better. Switch up anchors so they’re not the same every time. More rehearsal & correct info More humorous, less scripted/cheesy Something better than PPT (2) Special guests/features Co-ed teams instead of only boy/girl teams to balance ideas (2) Have your script finished so you can make quick changes Opening sequence (music/theme song) More upbeat Schedule anchors & slides Get audio/music in Show more passion

Get your work done ahead of time. Always work in class. LOOK AT THE WEBSITES Make sure you do your calendar, it will make it a lot easier in the long run (3) Get scripts & backgrounds ready. Be prepared with everything always. Always be ahead if you can Get things done on time & be ENTHUSIASTIC! Be productive in class; don’t slack off at any time; do not waste your time Don’t be late

Get scripts & backgrounds done weeks ahead so you aren’t stressing Finish your work & don’t wait ‘till the last minute FINISH YOUR CALENDAR RIGHT AWAY. If you’re not finished take it home and do what you can. Not having stuff done on time is super stressful Don’t have a day of “no work”. You will never finish. Get your calendars done early and use them. It makes planning so much easier. It’s never too early to do your slides. Don’t make Mr. Culp mad Don’t get Mr. Culp angry

Be confident, have fun :) Have fun because it takes hard work. It can be a great experience. Have fun with it. Make it a unique broadcast. Change it up and enjoy it. Work your best. Have fun! Have fun & be creative – that’s what it’s all about! And be creative – no one likes monotone. Put emotions in it and it will make it more fun. Practice how you want to perform, and always do your best!

Always work together. Have your teammates look over your work. Don’t fight with your team. Just accept that you have to get your work done. (2) Always pull your weight because it’s really annoying when people don’t. Collaborate & develop a good relationship with your team. It makes better scripts, backgrounds, & broadcasts. Include everyone. It’s no fun watching others do the work and not using your ideas.

Try to be positive all quarter. It will be more fun that way. Keep an open mind; it’s not what you expect.

How to Write Better Scripts & Create Great Backgrounds Highlight the tip/trick that will help you the most on each page

Write a conversation between your anchors – make it sound REAL. Use words, phrases, & things they’d actually say Make things interesting Create skits etc. Feel free to put in special things for your day (catchphrase, joke, gag, song etc.) Transition between topics using a theme Use these transitions sparingly Speaking of… Do you have a joke/quote/etc. WAIT! We forgot about…. Is it time for the pledge? Nope…

Always have an explanation for the joke or quote Pick things that For anonymous or unknown quotes Don’t say “by anonymous/unknown” after it You can say something like “that’s really good. Who said that?” and then we can find out it’s unknown Stick with the template!! Keep colors dark Color code after writing script Push CTRL to select more than one thing at a time

Pictures are better than words Save pix you’ll use constantly T/Th/F – Fitness with Coach W F – Character Winners Be concise with the words – fewer is better Light font on dark backgrounds

Animations, sound, & transitions are good!! Check out the Animation tab Choose “Animation pane” under the “Animation” tab to add effects Keep transitions short <2 seconds You can remove the background of a picture Select the pic Click “Format” Click “Remove Background” Whatever’s inside the box will stay You can choose to keep or delete specific parts

Your Day Always be early on your broadcast day Check www.dvusd.org/culp for any last minute additions or newswww.dvusd.org/culp Listen for the anchors to start talking about the slide before changing it Anchors Be enthusiastic – sell students on why they should be involved or participate in an event SPEAK. SLOWLY. AND. LOUDLY Audience Laugh with appropriate volume, tone, and length. Be ready/willing to share the flashlight app on your phone for broadcasts. Be ready to help the team broadcasting the day after you.
