A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic communications. Types of networks: Local Area Network (LAN) Local Area Network (LAN) is a network that is confined to a relatively small area.

» Wide Area Network (WAN) Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect networks in larger geographic areas, such as Florida, the United States, Azerbaijan or the world.

» Network topology Physical topology: How devices are connected to the network through the actual cables that transmit data, or the physical structure of the network. Defines how the systems are physically connected. It represents the physical layout of the devices on the network.

Console Cable The console cable allows you to access your Cisco device directly in order to make configuration changes or troubleshoot problems. A console cable has RJ-45 and DB-9 female connectors and is also known as a Select the Correct Cable Crossover and straight-through cables are used to connect network devices. Use the table to match the two devices you want to connect to determine which cable you need.
