Changes in the level of revenues and costs arise only because of changes in the number of product (or service) units produced and sold. 2. Total costs can be divided into a fixed component and a component that is variable with respect to the level of output.

When graphed, the behavior of total revenues and total costs is linear (straight-line) in relation to output units within the relevant range (and time period). 4. The unit selling price, unit variable costs, and fixed costs are known and constant.

The local factory allows the Pants Shop to return all unsold pants and receive a full $32 refund per pair of pants within one year. The average selling price per pair of pants is $70 and total fixed costs amount to $84,000.

You need a second Q. For example, assume Q = 2,000. TC = 42Q + $84,000. TC = 168,000. Plot this point on the graph. Extend a line horizontally from the first point in (a) above through the second point as now calculated. This is the TC line. 2.Draw the Total Revenue line a.Begin with the point ‘0’ on the graph where the two axes intersect b.Select a quantity (you may use the same as for TC) and compute TR. Plot point on the graph and extend a line from the (a) above through this new point on the graph. This is now your TR line
