2 What is the Virtual Robot? The Goal?  The virtual robot serves as a model of how the electrical/control systems are like in a FIRST robot.  The virtual robot will provide us with a basic understanding of the electrical/ control components of the robot in an easy-to- understand fashion.  Caveat : Do not fret if you do not understand everything, or even anything in this power point! This will take time and patience to learn!

4 Voltage  Voltage is the electric force (or pressure) that causes free electrons to move.  A volt is a measure of this force and its symbol is V.  A comparison: similar to how pressure is needed to push water through a hose, a force is needed to make electrons flow.

5 Current  Current : The amount of electrons that can flow through a material.  Current is measured in amperes or “amps” (A).  Back to the comparison: a current is like the water that that goes through a hose.

6 Resistance/ Gauge  Resistance is the opposition of electricity to flow through an object. Think of it as how tight a wire is holding the electrons.  It is measured in Ohms (Ω)  If a wire carries too many amps for its size, the insulation can melt and cause a fire. A wire’s gauge can determine how much current the wire can carry. Gauge Chart
