2
StackStick Project Project Wood character needed 1.material should be cheap and easy to work with 2.easy to burn 3.reusable, environmentally-frendly,without poisonous smoke 4.easy to carry 5.it should be cylindrial(a cylinder or a rectangular solid) and have the suitable size to make manufacturing easily
3
StackStick Project History of the conception Final outcome We choose a piece of wood and chips from a factory far away with the following characteristics: 150RMB(wood and chip totally) pine a ractangular solid (150*150*1000)mm the wood is the best one we can find to satisfy the requirement mentioned above and coordinate the conflicts between different characteristics
4
StackStick Project History of the conception History of conception 1/2 The main idea was to follow our 3D model plan Needed tool would be a lathe with a four-jaw chuck On-campus workshop only provides only a three-jaw chuck Impossible to produce the prototype in the workshop Block of wood Four jaw chuck
5
StackStick Project History of the conception History of conception 2/2 Factory-like workshop on campus Prototype was impossible to make on a lathe. Many different methods for prototyping – but none for wooden produtcs It was possible to make a mould with rapid prototyping – too costy and late delivery
6
StackStick Project Conception Recipe This is a dangerous production process. The product can easily catch fire. Attention : Don't do this at home!
7
StackStick Project Conception Recipe - Material - Take candles and smash them - Mix it with smashed wood - Shake it
8
StackStick Project Conception Recipe – Final product - Take two funnels, one big, one small - Cut the smaller one as shown on the picture - Put a little bit of material in a plastic bag. Put everything in the bigger funnel. - Put a plastic bag on the small funnel and put it inside the big one. Take plastic that can handle high temperature!
9
StackStick Project Conception Recipe – Final product - Finish fulfilling it with material and put it on a cup half filled with water. - Put it two times 2 minutes in the microwave. - Put it straight away in the freezer - Repeat the same operation with a cylinder shape.
10
StackStick Project Conception Recipe – Final product - Stick both part together with hot wax.
11
StackStick Project Conception Final product looks very easy took several weeks of research important factors: exact mixture of paraffin and sawdust time and temperature for the sintering process time and temperature for the cool-down process
12
StackStick Project Conception Final product Material Cost: Paraffin: 2 Yuan Sawdust: 0.5 Yuan Additional Items: 0.6 Yuan 3.1 Yuan Burning Skills testobjects (10x10mm) could be set on fire like a candle objects burned for at least 8:26 minutes no additional components added very solid and light strukture safe handling (no explosions possible) very cheap
13
StackStick Project Conception Final product production in 2 separate steps Hat + Tube both parts “glued” together finaly drilling the hole into the hat
14
StackStick Project Conception Conclusion MORE RESEARCH ON THE MIXTURE IS NEEDED
15
StackStick Project Conception Conclusion Prototype burns well Cheap Safe Standarization for the mixture is needed Different material needs to be tested Process of manufacturing needs to be standarized Project was a succes! Future Plans: Finalized chill-mould for perfect production Different product sizes of the stack stick Test run with other shapes Collaboration with other products, i.e. one way BBQ
16
StackStick Project Conception Thank you very much for your attention! Choose Stack Stick for your next BBQ-Session!
