The Castle Velké Meziříčí
3
The castle, originally a romanesque castle, was built on the rock above the river Oslava only in about 1236. In the following century, after a gothic adaptation in the 15 th century, it was rebuilt into a renaissance castle from which a loggia decorated by frescos was preserved in a small courtyard.
4
In 1578 the reconstruction was finished by Mrs. Alina Heldt Meziříčská as a portal on the castle gate reminds.
5
After the fire in 1723 the castle was rebuilt in a baroque style. The author of the adaptation was a Prague builder Ferdinand Václav Špaček who finished the construction in 1733.
6
The entrance part was adapted in a pseudogothic style at the turn of the 19 th and the 20 th century. In the past 13 significant noble families took turns in the ownership of the castle.
7
In 1995 Podstatzští-Lichtenstein made the restitution of the castle. In the building there is a Museum of Velké Meziříčí.
8
The pond Ochraneček, which is a rest of the castle ditch, separates the park from the castle buildings. The park was founded in the 18 th century at the place of an older preserve.
9
We can‘t overlook an old lime tree at the entrance to the park. According to a legend this tree is a descendant of the lime tree from the time of a Frankish merchant Sámo.
10
The original early gothic castle came from the 13 th century. Later it was rebuilt and eventually changed into a renaissance castle.
11
The fortification attached to the city wall reminds the gothic era of the construction.

After the fire in 1723 the count Ugart let a new baroque wing build according to J. B. Santini´s project ( it is the only J. B. Santini´s castle building in Moravia).
