2 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario 1.Login to UWO’s Acuity STAR & Reset Your Password (http://www.star.schulich.uwo.ca/, Schulich Website Link, Google) 2.Identify the All Activities View, and navigate to any page (Demonstration – Activity Menus, Page Names, Page Titles) 3.Identify & use all of the features of the STAR Data Grid (Sorting Rows, Hiding Columns, Applying Filters, Draft Records, Resizing Columns) 4.Add a new record of any type and complete the Popup STAR Data Form (Using the Add New Button on the Data Grid Page) 5.Explore all Primary and Secondary menus (Review the Help for this screen for each page) 6.Exporting the data in the data grid to an Excel spreadsheet (changes made to data exported from STAR to Word or Excel do not appear in STAR) 7.Differences between “All Activities View” and “UWO Standard CV View” (Demonstration – Print the UWO Standard CV to assist in navigation) 8.Discuss the “Common CV View”, how it will be used, and when it will be online. (Discussion and Demonstration)

It provides the same menu options in a new menu on the left side of the screen, and the content displays in the main content pane. The STAR v5.1 All Activities View. 4 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario Personal Data Menu: Personal Data Summary Page (Personal Information about the Faculty member, including picture if desired) Appointments Page (Members and Secretaries can only View these pages – Contact the Dept Superuser for updates) Addresses Page (Include the Primary Office Record, and a Home Office record only if desired) Education Menu: Education Page (Formal Education such as PHD, MD, BSC, Etc…) Other Specialized Training Page (Internships, Residency, Fellowships, Etc…) Research and Scholarly Activities Menu: Research Endeavours Page (A brief narrative of a faculty members research interests) Grants Page (For any industry or non industry grants, or clinical trials, be sure to add as much detail as possible) Publications Page (For any original research publication, such as Journal Articles, Books, Book Chapters, Etc…) Presentations Page (For any non-teaching presentations, be sure to include the geographic scope) Teaching Activities Menu: Program Teaching Page (For any teaching in the Schulich Medical school UME or PME Programs) Clinical Teaching Page (Any teaching of Students, Residents or Fellows within the context of patient contact) Service and Administration Menu: Administrative Committees Page (Any role for any committee will be sub-grouped by scope) Other Noteworthy Activities Page (for activities which do not fit anywhere else)

5 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario UWO Standard CV View is a new way of navigating the STAR interface using the UWO Standard CV Report headings as a dynamically generated menu. It provides the same menu options only laid out in the very same order, and sorted exactly the same as the UWO Standard CV. The STAR v5.1 UWO Standard CV View. 6 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario PLEASE NOTE: Full functionality for the Common CV tool will be available at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in the April 2011 timeframe. For now, we can access the Common CV View in STAR and generate the XML export file, however we can not yet upload this information to Common CV. If you have any questions about this tool, please contact your Superuser. The STAR v5.1 Common CV View. Common CV View is a tool we have developed to allow specific information stored in STAR to be exported to a file that the Common CV system can read. The Common CV system will then import the XML file to their system reducing the need for users to update two web systems with the same information.

7 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario All Activities View Data is displayed in grid format. (like spreadsheets) Every row in the grid is a data record. (all data in a row is part of that record) Data is not editable on the data grid screen. (use the ‘Edit’ button) Columns of data can be turned on or off. (Using ‘Grid Columns’ link) Data can be sorted based on any column heading. (Ascend / Descend) Be Careful of the Double Scrollbars and the Data Filters

8 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario Data is only editable on this “Data Form” page. (A Simple Web Form) Changes are not saved until the Save Button is clicked. Add or Change Data fields from the top down (Best Practice) Use Picklists whenever possible (Avoid ‘Other Specify’ where possible) Other Details field does not print. (from any page)

10 Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry The University of Western Ontario Going Forward: Login once a day for two weeks, make small changes Add Months to publications from 2006-present Ensure at least the last 12 months of data is up to date Keep STAR database updated once per month Print original CV and STAR UWO Standard CV to compare STOP using the original CV Certify the CV is up to date whenever possible. Prepare for Academic Promotions Cycle 6 Months in advance
