1 Introduction Mango is considered as national fruit of India and various mango varieties extensively grown through out the country. Mango is called king of fruits because of its excellent flavor, taste, color, value addition in processing and export market. Area and Production Mango ranks first position in all fruit crops and occupies 43 % area of total area under fruits crops in India. UP, AP and Maharashtra are largest mango growing state in India followed by Andhra Pradesh. India annually produces 150 lakh tonnes of mango fruits.

4 Nutritional and Economic Importance Mango pulp is sweet, nutritious, contains Vitamin A and rich source of carotene, calcium, phosphorus and Iron. Mango is exported as fresh fruits or processed. Jam, squash, juice, pickles and chutneys are prepared. Raw mangoes are sliced, dried and powdered to make Amchur, which is used to give sour taste to traditional preparations. Ripe mango are sliced, pulped and preserved. A refreshing drink made by mixing mango pulp with milk. Mango Seed/ kernel are powered and used as source of starch and protein.

5 Medicinal Importance Ripe fruits of mango are highly nourishing, diuretic and laxative. Smoke of dried mango leaves is used to cure throat disease. Industrial Importance Mango bark is used in the extraction of tannin, which is used in the leather industries. Wood is used for furniture, packing boxes and fuel wood. Religious Importance Mango leaves are considered as symbol of prosperity and used in religious functions. Blossoms is use in worshiping in Hindu religion.
