7 7 2005 Final Year Project Briefing Plagiarism ß The School considers plagiarism as an unacceptable practice. Serious action will be taken against any student who is found to have taken material substantially from a source without giving it due acknowledgement. ß We would like to inculcate the culture where students can be proud of their own work

8 8 2005 Final Year Project Briefing To avoid plagiarism ß Always cite the reference(s) of ßthe text you have summarised ß programs, diagrams or figures taken from books, papers, website etc. ß Summarise the text rather than copy verbatim or just alter the text very slightly. ß Sparing use of original (i.e. verbatim) quotes from a text must be shown in inverted commas. This is used merely to emphasise a point
