Our Acceleration Philosophy “Challenge without overwhelming” Shenendehowa provides accelerated programs not only to satisfy state mandates, but also to meet the needs of our diverse community of learners.

Students who accelerate successfully: Have a high level of interest in the subject area Grasp ideas quickly in order to effectively manage the pace of the curriculum Demonstrate creativity and critical thinking Communicate (read, write, speak, and listen) at or above grade level Work collaboratively to solve authentic problems and issues Demonstrate the interest in and ability to reflect on their learning, as well as provide feedback on ideas proposed by others

Recognize the additional responsibility and effort that is required for this level of class Complete work on time and demonstrate the time and effort that goes into completing complex assignments Take initiative to seek assistance from their teacher when it is needed Follow the Academic Integrity Policy as expected of all Shenendehowa students

Scheduling Most students will be recommended to continue with single acceleration. This means they would be taking the Math 8H course as 7 th graders.

When does a student take the Accelerated Math 8H class? Within the regular school day Most classes are mixed 7 th & 8 th graders 7 th grade students taking Math 8H will then automatically be enrolled in Algebra Honors as an 8 th grader.

Algebra Honors Summer Work Course covers material in eighth grade curriculum as well as Integrated Algebra curriculum. Seventh grade state test review (separately) in the spring. Transformational Geometry packet for all students entering Algebra Honors.
