9. Pass the paper. Check for basic, elementary vocabulary. Circle any words that the writer can replace with better, higher level vocabulary.

10. Pass the paper. Skim read for “be” verbs– circle any that you find: Am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been Skim read for contractions such as: It’s, can’t, won’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t, etc. These must be SPELLED OUT IN FORMAL, ACADEMIC WRITING!!
