5 Mission / Vision “To help H&R Block assist their clients to achieve their financial objectives by serving as their tax and financial partner, by combining the School House Program with the Dollars & Sense Program in the Benicia Unified School District.”

9 Schoolhouse Program  Schoolhouse program gives teachers, parents, and students discounts on their income tax preparation by giving out coupons.  Coupons Include;  Parents $25 off tax preparation  Free tax returns for high school students  Teachers and staff are charged a flat fee of $169 for federal tax returns  Along with $25 back to the school with each parent sign up  Each School will also receives posters to hang around school and additional brochures

10 Dollars and Sense Program  “It is a comprehensive educational initiative to help high school students learn the essentials of financial fitness”  The program consists of two parts  Knowledge Matters Virtual Business®- Personal Finance software  H&R Block Dollars & Sense National Challenge  Over $1 million in Financial curriculum  $50,000 in Scholarships

11 Implementation 1) Choose a school in Benicia  a)Benicia high 2) Establish relationship with school through the Schoolhouse Program  a)Follow up with kits given out - To insure an adequate amount of flyers were given out  b)Get involved with other school programs to become more familiar to the students and faculty.  c)Keep in contact with administration and athletic department

12 Implementation  3) Propose Dollars and Sense program  a) Offer presentation on what curriculum consists of - Stress importance of financial education in our youth  b) Explain the Dollars and Sense National Challenge as incentive for students - Scholarship opportunities

15 In Conclusion  The two individual programs were great community outreach programs that will prove to have great success for H&R Block in the future  Combining the two programs together would increase awareness about H&R Block  We felt if students were more informed about financial decisions, they would be more willing to take advantage of what the Schoolhouse program has to offer  Participates will view H&R Block as a friendly and valued member of their community
