CONFIDENTIAL The BioCybernetics Initiative By: Farhan Rehman Advisor: Dr. Arthur Ritter Stevens Institute Of Technology
2
CONFIDENTIAL Mission and Ultimate Goal To design and construct an autonomous device at the Nano-scale that is effective for medical diagnosis and treatment
3
CONFIDENTIAL Nanotechnology “The science and technology of building electronic circuits and devices from single atoms and molecules at a scale smaller then 100 nanometers”

CONFIDENTIAL Current Camera Pill
9
CONFIDENTIAL Project proposal To create a camera pill on the mini scale Mobile through the human Gastrointestinal Tract (GI Tract) Have data collection capabilities. The focus of the project depends on the establishment of three main subsystems: -propulsion - energy - exoskeleton
10
CONFIDENTIAL Propulsion Designing a system to control the path and speed of the pill in the G.I. Tract Researching the feasibility of reverse drive Integrating the motor with a wireless transmitter to allow for real-time user control Human GI tract
11
CONFIDENTIAL Propulsion Our Computer model of Human GI track Our physical model of GI tract This is the valves that will provide contraction to move the pill along the GI tract
12
CONFIDENTIAL The Computer Design of Our Pill
13
CONFIDENTIAL Energy The pill demand a consistent power supply for data collection and processing. The feasibility of the use of piezoelectric fibers to provide power to the mini scale camera pill will be analyzed. Contraction of the human Gastrointestinal Tract would yield strain on the piezoelectric fibers producing energy.

15
Exoskeleton Researching possible materials Researching the possibility of a Biodegrading enclosure for the device Designing several enclosures for the device and the onboard optic system
16
CONFIDENTIALBenefits For doctors to diagnose their patient better with Celiac Disease, Benign and Malignant Tumor in the small intestine, Vascular disorders. Also to learn about the Human physiology It more comfortable than a colonoscopy
