What is UNT like? What are Campus Life Ambassadors (CLAs)? How do we get our CLAs? What do they do? How do they use OrgSync? Where are we going with the CLA program?

Public research University in Denton, TX hosting 36,000 undergraduate and graduate students OrgSync is managed by Student Activities o 350 + student organizations o Campus-wide events and traditions o Non-traditional and commuter students o Campus Life Ambassador program Student Activities consists of one director, 3 coordinators, and 2 graduate assistants Bought OrgSync in 2009 Conducted a “re-launch” in Fall 2012 with addition of organization orientations, and the CLA program in its 2 nd year

Purpose: o Engage student leaders in the mission of the Student Activities Center o CLAs support front desk operations and departmental events o Represent Student Activities in presentations and marketing efforts o Assist student organizations with registration and event planning o Advise students on opportunities for involvement on campus Half Student Assistant/Half Campus Life Ambassador

Purpose: Help students decide if this is a good fit for them, and to provide students with an opportunity to ask questions of a current CLA and supervisor. Information included: o Skills needed o Tasks they might be working on o Benefits of being a CLA o Application process

Applied through 2 formats: o Student Employee application o OrgSync application Required materials: o Letter of Recommendation o Essay Questions o Resume o Anticipated Class Schedule In-person interview

Purpose: CLA helps find organizations that meets students’ interests, hobbies, talents, and time interests Process: o Student Activities promotes involvement advising o CLAs contact interested students, set up appointment, and send Involvement Menu o Prior to advising session, student fills out pre-assessment o Session is held in a private office in the Student Activities Center o Student leaves with three organizations/campus programs and events they are interested in getting involved in o Fills out post-assessment o CLA follows up with student 2 weeks after session to see if they have any additional questions or need any help getting involved

Purpose: one-on-one meeting with an officer of the new student organization to get more of an understanding about the organization and it’s plans Also inform new org about resources offered in Student Activities o Bank Accounts o Event Bulletins on OS o Event Funding (with SGA) o Officer Transition o Printing o Sponsorships

The CLA’s also present on a number of topics for students, faculty, and staff o How to Get Involved o Campus Wide Events and Traditions o Non-Traditional and Commuter Student Services o Officer Transition o Event Planning o Student Activities as a whole The CLA’s, with supervisor approval, are responsible for creating new presentations as they come to save and present in the future

Required orientation with the purpose of student organization officers learning functions of running their organization, contact information for assistance, benefits of registration, and a short 20 minute OrgSync tutorial. OrgSync tutorial included: o How to register o Communication features o People function (how to make someone an administrator) o Important Forms o Events (how to request on community calendar) o Personal Settings (enabling/disabling SMS and email features) Also included is upcoming events and resources, where we promote OrgSync tutorials

OrgSync How-To Videos: o Starting this Summer, the CLAs will begin making videos to explain the most common organizational uses of OS o Goal is to have an ongoing video series to help students with any problems or uncertainty that they have with OS Tutorials: o Departments and student organizations and other groups can request to have a CLA come and do a thorough tutorial of features of OrgSync Office Use of OrgSync o CLAs have a portal where they can input files/forms, communicate, and keep track of room reservations, organization events

Learning Outcomes: o Students who participate in the Campus Life Ambassador Program will be able to correctly articulate campus policy related to student organizations as measured by 80% accuracy rate on a post-training questionnaire. o Students who participate in the Campus Life Ambassador program will be able to list and give a basic description of at least 3 campus resources for student organizations, as measured on a post-training questionnaire. Performance Evaluation: o Mid-Semester and End of Year

CLAs from a supervisor’s perspective o Growth and professional development o Individual projects and one-on-ones with supervisor Progression of program Goals: o See a growth of organizations ask for OrgSync trainings o CLA’s have prior knowledge of OrgSync and Student Activities prior to applying o Increase number of students requesting involvement advising sessions Promote the Involvement Advising service more heavily o Bring involvement advising process to the students
