3. Seating Chart Each classroom will have an assigned seating chart. You are required to enter the room quietly and sit only in your assigned seat.

4. Warm-Up Assignment The Warm-Up assignment will be on the board each day (or where your individual teacher has designated.) Upon arriving to class you should go directly to your seat and begin the Warm-Up assignment. The Warm-Up allows the teacher time to take attendance and retrieve materials for students who were absent earlier in the week. Consequently, there should be no talking as you enter the classroom. Talking during the Warm-Up is considered classroom interference.

5. Warm-Up Assignment If you have a question upon arriving to the classroom, wait until the “Warm-Up” is completed. You are not allowed to enter the room, drop off your books, go to the bathroom and reenter the classroom. Use the bathroom and drink from the water fountain according to your grade level policy. Typically the Warm-Up will take two to five minutes. When you finish the Warm-Up you may read any chapter in your textbook or activity/procedure as directed from your teacher. Your individual teachers will also have additional policies and guidelines for their classroom.

7. e Arrival Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:30 am. All students report to the morning holding areas at 7:35. 6th and 7th graders will report to the gym and sit with their grade. 8th graders will report to the cafeteria and sit boys to one side and girls to the other. Students will be dismissed from their holding areas by the teachers on duty. Students arriving after 8:10 must report to office first.

8. e Dismissal School dismisses at 3:25 pm. Students must be picked up by 3:45 pm. Bus Riders will remain in their 7th period classroom or bus room until their bus is called. Car riders will exit the building at their designated grade level exit and will remain with their grade level in front of the building.

9. Absences Students are responsible for making up missed work within three days. Students are responsible for meeting with teacher to discuss/obtain missing work. Students need to bring a written excuse from home and/or medical professional and turn it at the front office to Ms. Gale or Ms. Boggs.

10. - Tardies Students must be responsible for arriving to school and to each class ON TIME. School Starts at 8:10 am Arrive in time to prepare for your day. You must be in your HR seat ready to start at the 8:10 bell. If you arrive late you must report to the office for a tardy pass. You must be in your seat ready to work in each class by tardy bell.

11. - Early Dismissal Early Dismissal is the same as being tardy. Leaving school early causes students to miss classes later in the day instead of in the morning. Students are responsible for their attendance to all classes. School ends at 3:25 each day. If a student is dismissed early, they are expected to provide an excuse from home or medical professional. Students are responsible for missed assignments and assessments.

12. - Tardies and Early Pickup Students must be responsible for their attendance to all classes. Tardy & Early Pickup Policy (Tardy and Early Pickup incidents will be combined for consequences. It will be recorded by semester.) : 5 th Tardy – Warning 10 th Tardy – After School Detention 3:30 -4:30 15th Tardy - ISS Every 5th tardy will result in ISS

13. Buses All school rules apply on the bus. The transportation handbook has additional rules for your safety and the safety of others. ID’s must be worn on the bus at all times. Riding the bus is a privilege that may be revoked if students do not adhere to the bus and school rules.

14. e After School Activities If you stay after school for any activity (sports, arts, clubs, detention etc.) you must be picked up at the designated time. Only students participating in the activity may stay on campus. – Siblings, friends, relatives may not stay after school with you or stay to watch the activity.

15. d Hall Passes Students must have a hall pass to travel anywhere on campus during class time. Hall passes are in the back of your agenda. Hall passes must have your name at the top and have the details completed and a teacher signature. A hall pass must be filled out to obtain a bathroom pass. Students may only be in approved areas on campus. If you are in an unauthorized area or without a signed hall pass, you will receive an office referral for being out of area.

16. Only drink allowed at Robert Anderson is WATER! (exception lunchtime in lunch room) It must be in a clear bottle with a screw on cap. No Food or Drink

17. ID’s All Students must wear their ID. Must be worn around neck on break free lanyard. May not be defaced in anyway - written on, colored, chewed, cut, covered, etc. It will count as a violation and you will need to purchase a new one. If you forget your ID you may get a temporary sticker from your homeroom teacher. Each time you do not have an ID – you receive a violation. You can receive multiple violations in one day!

18. ID Violations 5 ID violations – Lunch Detention 10 ID violations – After School Detention 15 ID violations – ISS (1 day) 20 ID violations – ISS (2 days) Buy a spare ID and keep in a convenient location – backpack, locker etc. Get into a routine for storing your ID at the end of each day.

19. Dress Code Dress Code is strictly enforced! Boys: Sagging Pants Girls: Cleavage and length of shirt, dress, skirt etc. Review Dress Code Policy in Your Code of Conduct booklet. Sign and return Dress Code Contract!

20. Dress Code Dress Code is strictly enforced! 1st Violation - student will receive a warning. If student is unable to remedy the problem, the student will be placed into ISS. Student completes Dress Code Violation form. Teacher contacts parents. 2nd, 3 rd, 4 th Violation – Administrative Referral, ISS, Dress Code Violation Form. 5th Violation - Administrative Referral, ISS, Dress Code Violation Form, Parent Conference. Subsequent Violations may result in OSS or Expulsion.

21. P Mobile Devices Personal devices should be left at home. If students bring them to school, they should be securely stored during the school day. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen devices. Devices may only be used when directed by the classroom teacher under his/her direct supervision. Devices may not be used in common areas, cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms, outside, library, gym, homeroom, etc., between 7:30am - 3:25pm.

22. P Mobile Devices Must be in silent mode while on school campuses. May not be used to cheat on assignments or tests, or for non- instructional purposes (such as making personal phone calls and text/instant messaging). May not be used to record, transmit or post photographic images or video of a person, or persons on campus during school activities and/or hours unless related to an academic assignment. May only be used to access files on device, network or internet sites which are relevant to the classroom curriculum with teacher supervision.

23. Mobile Devices Mobile Devices should not be seen or heard during school. 1 st Offense– Device is confiscated and student retrieves from the office at the end of the day. 2 nd Offense– Device is confiscated and Parent/Guardian (not friends, cousins, neighbors, etc.) retrieves cell phone from the office at the end of the day. 3rd Offense– Device is confiscated and Parent/Guardian retrieves cell phone from office and student receives a discipline referral. 4th Offense– Device is confiscated and Parent/Guardian retrieves cell phone and student receives a discipline referral.

24. Mobile Devices Refusal to give the device to a Robert Anderson staff member upon request will result in a discipline referral. *Administer Quiz

26. Everyone has the right to: Attend Robert Anderson Middle School in a positive, safe environment that is free from interference. Rights

27. No one has the right to: Physically injure themselves, injure others or threaten injury. Discriminate against others. Damage or destroy materials. Steal from others. Impose on others. Misrepresent to others. Interfere with others. Limits

28. Injury and Threats No one has the right to: Physically injure themselves, injure others or threaten injury. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Hitting a wall, locker or anything at all (hurting self.) Stabbing self or others with pencil, finger or any object. Skin burns - constant friction from an eraser etc. to self or others.

Examples: Pushing or shoving someone – especially in crowded hallways before school, during class changes, before or after lunch. Horse playing – slap boxing or wrestling – (horse play often turns into a fight as one individual gets upset with another)

30. Injury and Threats No one has the right to: Physically injure themselves, injure others or threaten injury. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Threatening to fight someone before school, during school, or after school. This is intimidation and may result in a “Bullying” charge. Includes digital threats (text, fb, social media, etc.) in school and out of school. Tripping someone at school.

31. Injury and Threats No one has the right to: Physically injure themselves, injure others or threaten injury. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Sending a threatening note/text to someone (Even if it is in the form of a third party), e.g., Fred is mad at Joe. Fred gives a threatening note to Bob. Bob gives the note from Fred to give to Joe. Instigating a fight between yourself and another or between others (encouraging a fight, recording a fight, middle man talk/ actions).

32. Injury and Threats No one has the right to: Physically injure themselves, injure others or threaten injury. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Purposely bumping up against someone in a threatening posture. Conveying, in any fashion, to another individual that you intend to fight or harm them

33. Discriminate No one has the right to: Discriminate against others. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Making fun of someone because of the way they dress, speak, read or walk. Making fun of someone because of their religion, race, gender or economic status. Trying to make someone else look or feel inferior to you.

34. Damage or Destroy No one has the right to: Damage or destroy materials. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Writing in or bending issued textbooks Throwing Textbooks. Writing graffiti (bathroom, desks, walls etc.)

35. Damage or Destroy No one has the right to: Damage or destroy materials. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Removing objects from computers (keys, mice etc.) Slamming down IPads, Chromebooks etc. Altering the appearance of anything issued to you by the school.

36. Steal from Others No one has the right to: Steal from others, including school property. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Cheating on a test. Copying someone’s homework or allowing your work to be copied. Taking something from someone’s person or belongings (purse, backpack) without their permission. (No playing around either) Taking school property.

37. Impose on Others No one has the right to: Impose our will on others. Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Forcing someone to do something for you (pass a note, give them something, etc.) Violate someone’s personal space Taking off shoes, emitting gas etc.

38. Misrepresent No one has the right to: Lie, Cheat or Falsify Violations Will Result in Office Referral. Examples: Gossiping – Especially lies. Lying – Outright or by Omission. Forging Signature of parent.

39. Interference No one has the right to: Interfere with Others. Violations Result in Warning, Action Plan and Discipline Ladder Step Definition – Anything that disrupts the learning environment for yourself or Others. Most Common Discipline Issue in School

40. Interference Violations Result in Warning, Action Plan and Discipline Ladder Step Examples: Pounding or tapping pen/pencil on the desk (some people find this annoying.) Exaggerated yawn, sneeze, cough. Crumbling-up paper in such a way that it disrupts the learning environment. Yelling out answers or questions without permission-- This prevents others from contributing to class participation and impedes upon their learning. Humming, singing, rapping, tapping, or any noise that disrupts learning. Sharpening pencils during class time can be interfering as some students continue to sharpen their pencil until it annoys everyone in the classroom.

41. Interference Violations Result in Warning, Action Plan and Discipline Ladder Step Examples: Slamming the door when you enter or leave disrupts the learning environment. Entering the classroom late and yelling out. Constantly giggling. Making strange noises – gun noises, voices, talking to yourself, etc. Passing notes. Rolling fingers loudly on desk. Popping knuckles.

42. Interference Violations Result in Warning, Action Plan and Discipline Ladder Step Examples: Moving around in your desk in a manner which creates a noise. Clapping hands (when it is not in proper context.)

43. Interference Consequences Violations For Interfering With Others Will Result in Progressive Discipline Actions - Warning, Action Plan and Office Referrals First time a student interferes in a class: Student receives a warning and their name is recorded by the teacher. Second time a student interferes in the same class (same day): Student receives a second documentation and a teacher detention. The teacher calls parent that day and the student serves the detention/consequence the following day, unless the parent is notified about the detention prior to detention time. The teacher needs to record/document the parent contact and any comments or request from the parents. Lunch detentions can be served the same day as the interference as long as the parents are notified that day.

44. Interference Consequences Violations For Interfering With Others Will Result in Progressive Discipline Actions - Warning, Action Plan and Office Referrals Third time a student interferes in the same class: The student will receive a step on his/her discipline ladder and be sent to the office if he/she cannot remain in class. Teachers are required to call parents, that day, with an explanation of why the student was removed from class. ❖ Discipline Ladder Steps: (Teacher will record all discipline ladder steps on the grade level ladder spreadsheet.) ●1 st Step: Teacher will contact parent, Student will serve lunch detention (or after- school with teacher), student completes an action plan during detention that teacher will keep record of. ●2 nd Step: Student will be assigned detention and will complete another action plan. Teacher will schedule discipline conference with student’s teachers, student, and call parents to invite them to attend the discipline conference. Teacher should let parents know future interferences will result in office referrals. ●3 rd Step: Teacher will contact parents. Student will receive an office referral. *Student will receive office referrals for all future steps.

46. Interference Consequences Violations For Interfering With Others Will Result in Progressive Discipline Actions - Warning, Action Plan and Office Referrals Habitual Offenders: If a student reaches the 3rd step on their discipline ladder, a Parent will be requested to attend the student's behavior conference.
