- UNECE Statistical Division Slide 2 Conclusions of review The in-depth review paper concluded with the following (paper 10): These indicators create a lot of debate A considerable number of different indicators exists and new indicators emerge Despite some level of harmonization in the EU, the area of work lacks standards Official statistics are increasingly involved in the work relating to these indicators NSO role is not clear

- UNECE Statistical Division Slide 3 Outcome of the in-depth review The Bureau discussed the topic in January 2014 Possible next steps include (10/Add.1): Organising a workshop or seminar on this topic or Establishing a small international group to: (a) Define national statistical offices’ (NSO) role (and its boundaries) with regard to these indicators; and (b) Consider communication strategies for dealing with issues related to these indicators

- UNECE Statistical Division Slide 4 Respondents supported organising a workshop and/or setting up a small international group to: Identify the NSO role with a criteria for NSO’s involvement Draft a taxonomy of these indicators and methodologies Consider communication strategies for NSOs Address the lack of practical guidelines and harmonisation Some would give priority to economic leading indicators, some to new indicators on social aspects Collaborate with the academia Priorities for further work
