Website for Course Tour of the course website NOW! You can download almost every class material from the course website….. http://www.csub.edu/~ychoi2 You will find the course link from above my home page.

12
Big Data Textbook Group Assignment 2 Each group member prepares one question based on reading. First discuss overview of each chapter Then discuss questions with members. For example: three members three questions to discuss
13
About MIS Lab 1 DO NOT TRY TO FIX THE COMPUTER!! You will never be penalized because of technical problems of this classroom. Make sure the Internet connection of your computer works! Bring a flash (stick) memory to save your work
14
Course Objectives Introduce the fundamental concepts and implementations of the relational database systems. Entity-Relationship diagram, the relational model, normalization, reverse engineering and SQL. You will be proficient in designing and programming database systems after you successfully finish this class.
15
Course Perspective DB is a straight forward field. Based on Mathematics DB is a very stable field. Fundamental of DB has not been changed much But DB sizes and tools has been changed Not so difficult to learn Very straight forward field Only few dominant tools Modeling of DB is everything
16
Evaluation and Grading The grading scales are subject to change. Assignment/Project100 Exams100 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Total200 points
17
More Evaluation and Grading Your goal in this class shall be to learn as much as you possibly can about the design and implementation of computer database systems. Assignments and exams evaluate ability to solve problems and implement logics. Grades can be curved and will never be curved down. i.e. if everyone gets above 95%, everyone gets an A
18
Submission 1 You must submit the assignment, the project, and the midterm exam through the Blackboard submission link. Otherwise, it will not be accepted. If you’d like to avoid any type of possible technical problems, please submit using a PC in the school computer lab and also try to submit at least two days before the due date. When you turn in the assignment, the file name of your assignment or project must make sense. JohnDoe_assignment_3.doc ECprjt_1_group_3
19
Submission 2 When you submit an assignment (or exam), you MUST CLOSE the Microsoft office application (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) COMPLETELY before you submit ASSIGNMENT (OR EXAM) FILES. Otherwise, you will receive ZERO POINT because Blackboard cannot process and accept "Completed Whole Assignment (or Exam) Files."
20
Submission 3 That is, ONLY title of you file will be processed and accepted without including actual contents of your assignment (or exam). And if an assignment requires submit several files, you must submit all files together at once. That is, you must "UPLOAD" all the assignment files together at once.
21
Course Guideline 1 Class Attendance Is required More than two consecutive absences will significantly negatively impact your final grade. Notify me first by email prior to the absence. Miss a class because of a documentable illness or other reasonable cause, I will provide help. Otherwise, I do not repeat any lectures, labs…… The attendance will be checked.
22
No Interference Surfing the Internet without permission Typing (email, paper…) and cell phone texting Talking to classmates during the lectures - If you have any question, let your instructor know directly. Do not discuss your questions with your neighbors Bottom line…do not distract others Up to 30 % of your total score can be deducted depending on the level of interference.
23
Bathroom Policy Need to go to the bathroom? Stand next to the printer and then wait for my signal. Best! Wait until the “Break”… If you violet this policy, minimum 10% (based on total score) will be applied.
24
Late Policy All Students must be on time to the class. If you late more than 20 minutes without any notification (at least 24hours), then it will be considered as “ABSENCE.” If you violet this policy, minimum 10% (based on total score) will be applied.
25
CSUB Policy “Faculty have a fundamental responsibility to maintain the integrity of the learning environment. When confronted by unreasonable disruption in the classroom, faculty are expected to initiate actions to correct such conditions. Such actions may result in disciplinary action ranging from removal from the classroom to formal disciplinary sanctions, including probation, suspension, or expulsion.”
26
Course Guideline 2 Peer Group Evaluation is a part of the grading scheme. Your evaluation is 100% confidential. To prevent free riding in the group, the contribution of each member will be assessed. Each member is expected to submit a peer group evaluation at the end of the quarter. No one will be allowed to see your evaluation. Please remember that your final grade can be up or down graded based on the evaluation result.
27
Course Guideline 3 Microsoft Office is the ONLY official software for our university (No Microsoft Works allowed). Any work submitted not using Microsoft Office will not be accepted.
28
Course Guideline 4 Late work will be penalized (25% each day late) Failure to submit an assignment by the deadline will result in a grade of 0. A written excuses from the appropriate person such as a medical doctor is the only acceptable form of excuse.
29
Course Guideline 5 Office hours Please DO NOT try to use office hours to make up for a missed class (I do not repeat any lectures). You must be able to demonstrate you have already put a reasonable effort into solving and/or analyzing the problems. Honor code Classroom conduct Everyone is equal.
30
Course Activities Assignment Turn in thru Blackboard Discussion is OK but do not copy other’s work Project (visit the project link on the course website) This is a group work and there will be a peer evaluation at the end of quarter. Total score can be downgraded based on the result of peer evaluation
