You are researching investment options and opportunities as a member of a team for your firm or group. Your team members are geographically dispersed around the country/world and each of you works at a different time (dependent on lifestyle choices and time zone differences). It is not realistic for all of you to meet in the same location at the same time. How are you and the members of the group going to communicate?

Group Communications Group communications are typically categorized as being synchronous or asynchronous – Synchronous communications occur when Face-to-face meetings or conference calls – Asynchronous communications occur when Work typically occurs at different times or in different locations

What are some of the technology tools that you use (or might use) for asynchronous communications and collaboration?

Email and – Most to share content Good for getting the word out Not everyone participates (won’t read and/or respond) Lots of emails are hard to keep/get organized – Easy to forget to attach a file – Someone might not notice the attachment or claim they didn’t see it. – If several people are all receiving the attachment, modifying the attachment and then resending the attachments, how will you be able to tell what the most complete and most current version is? Security Issue When using such as these, you must. – Are you posting confidential material? – Who might see, modify or download the material that is being posted? – Are “outsiders” part of your collaborative team, and if so, how might they use/view the info being posted. – What are your corporate security policies? Do the use of collaborative tools circumvent them? Collaboration tools have many benefits, but they also open the door to the loss of critical assets. Let the collaborator beware !!!!!
